Great ambience, incredible food, terrific service

Get the phyllo wrapped scallops. The spicy pork bbq. Great bipembap. Enjoy using the smokeless bbq so you don't smell like korean food after. This place was a wonderful surprise. And a great date place or place to meet a group of friends.

AMAZING. PERIOD.

Of the 15 or so different Korean BBQ places I've been to in LA, this place is superb. The meat quality is incredible. And the side dishes are great. (In fact, if you're doing low-carb, they'll be cool and only bring you low-carb sides.)

The decor is cool -- great lighting, chic. The tables have an amazing suction fan that ensures you won't leave smelling like your food.

And the proprietor is completely cool and will check on your experience. He genuinely wants to know how to make your experience better.

The prices are a great deal. Not cheap -- but amazing value. For the quality and quantity of food, you can't beat it. It's not all-you-can-eat, but who wants all-you-can-eat if the food is subpar.

You'll leave this place full and happy. For the same price any other place would have cost you.

Check it out. Decide for yourself. You'll be glad you went.

Great food, nice service, beautiful surroundings (and no nasty BBQ smell on your clothing)

Much as it is fun to go over to Soot B*ll Jeep for old-school barbecue, sometimes it is nice to splurge with a little bit more luxurious meal. Jian has great tasty food, and because it is new and well ventilated, there is no nasty BBQ stench on your clothing and in your hair when it's all over. Jian is beautiful inside with these crazy pachinko machines and beautiful woodwork. The cuts of meat and seafood that they used are far superior to anywhere save perhaps Cho Sun, and the service was really good. Given all that, it really wasn't even that expensive compared to the traditional K-town alternatives. The only negative is that their tea cups don't have handles and are too hot to handle.

Best A-list Korean BBQ

Im not sure what kind of person would say that the meat here is anything but exceptional, because Ive eaten korean bbq all over LA not to mention abroad, and there are few places that can challenge Jian when it comes to meat quality. The place does seem a little pricey, but Its not over priced, and I guess what you can come to expect from the Weho area. Ive only been here a few times but always seem to catch A list celebrities attempting to remain incognito in the back section of corners of this place. I love the food, but love the drinks just as much. Amazing wine list, but for the best selection I had to ask the waiter as they always have new bottles every time I go. Service is great, very friendly, I must say, my new fave in K bbq, and I dont smell like smoke when I leave!

• Pros: Food is simply amazing. Everything on the menu!
• Cons: Closes at 1030! would love to hang out at the bar late night.

No need to go west of Western--this high-design Korean barbeque spot is adding sizzle to Beverly Boulevard.

Beverly locals are cooling their heels and sizzling their Kobe beef at this posh WeHo adjacent eatery. Local families, youngish professionals and foodies with a penchant for DIY grilling converge around the smokeless table grills set against burnished woods, beach-pebble floors and dramatic Buddhist art. Meanwhile, a subtle cool-kid scene is brewing at the glowing red bar lined with shiny, candy-colored pachinko games. Starters include crispy salmon filets with sesame leaf, and snow crab-stuffed halibut; tableside DIY barbeque features sliced rib-eye, short ribs, Wagyu beef and jumbo sea scallops. Among the very traditional dishes are stewed oxtail, black cod and spicy beef soup.

Good food, friendly staff, but pricey

It was dead at opening time (6 pm) on a Wednesday and hadn't gotten busier by 7:30. So maybe the staff was a bit more attentive to my friend and I from boredom, but they were attentive, accomodating, and friendly nonetheless. We ate at the bar as we'd both experienced grilling our own food and didn't need to repeat the process. So our entrees were served grilled by the kitchen. High quality meat and good portion size. The side dishes and rice were a bit skimpy considering the price, but they were good quality. I would have preferred to be able to select smaller portions of more types of meat.

Given the quality, I'll probably check out their lunch service which is more reasonably priced.

Go to K-town instead...

As a frequent k-town diner, i was curious about this place since it's right near my work. The decor is really nice - hip, trendy, spacious. The food was tasty but not worth the money in my opinion. The kimchi was sour and portions were small. I'd recommend driving a bit father to k-town where you'll be served double the portion size, 7-10 fresh side dishes ("ban-chan" in korean) and the waitress will even refill them upon request at half the cost.

If this doesn't matter to you and you're just looking for something trendy and new to do, go here.

Hip Korean BBQ, but $$

I live in the neighborhood, so have been excited to try this new Korean BBQ restaurant. It's decorated in a very trendy way, with a wall of Pachinko machines behind the bar. The food was well above average for BBQ meat, well seasoned and of good quality. However, the kimchi selection was not as diverse or extensive as ChoSun Kalbe on Olympic Blvd. Also during our meal, one of the non-waitstaff/hostess, presumably the manager (Caucasian male, mid 30's) came over to our table, didn't introduce himself, turned off the grill at our table, and wandered over to the hostess station. Our meat wasn't even cooked yet, and the fact that he didn't even greet us or introduce himself, was a bit odd. We turned on the Coleman grill again and finished our meal. For two people, (no appetizers) one soda, one beer, one Kalbe, one shrimp dish, and rice= >$70.

• Pros: hip, trendy, closer to the westside
• Cons: valet, clueless waitstaff.

New twist on Korean

What do you get when you combine state-of-the-art gas grills, robots, flashing pinball machines, and a buddha surrounded by smoke?

Jian BBQ, of course. This new Korean place has won my heart, which is quite tough for a Korean place that isn't excessively cheap or homemade, which is the kind of kimchi meal i'm used to. The decor is cool and hip, and the food refreshing and clean. The salmon tartare i had was amazing - it had a tasty vinaigrette and a really good korean pear that accompanied it - perfect for summertime. For BBQ, i tried the tuna belly, paired with the cucumber kimchi. The two complemented each other perfectly - the belly, which is really fatty, went down smoothly without the strange rubbery texture or excessively fishy taste that can sometimes accompany such an entree. Tangy, crunchy kimchi went with it really well.

I really like this place!
