Best Frozen Yogurt in Town!
by mommysra at Citysearch
I think that Penguins Frozen Yogurt is the best froyo in town! I've been eating it for at least 15 years and I'm hooked! The selection and fresh quality of nonfat and carbolite flavors is tremendous...and they always have my favorite Chocolate Ghiradelli available. The parking and centrally located business makes it always easy to swing by. They are open late on weekends and on holidays (when most everybody is closed!) But most of all, the reason I love Penguins is because of the service. The staff is always so friendly, helpful, patient (with lots of customers and plenty of tasters) and good service. In addition, they are always so nice to my children and portions are generous. What else can I say about Penguins Frozen Yogurt...its the best in town!!
Ice cream goes to the birds at this bright frozen yogurt spot.

In Short
With their signature black-and-white interior scheme (it is named Penguin's after all), this SoCal chain was one of the first brands to start the "froyo" craze. Born in the '80s and aimed at health-concscious customers looking for an ice cream experience without the calories, Penguin's offers aline of fat-free, sugar-free and dairy-free frozen dessert products. Each location has a variety of soft-serve and hard-packed frozen yogurts with many toppings from which to choose.
variety and toppings~

Penguins is very reminiscent to my hometown froyo spot, Goldenspoon. The best thing about it is their variety~ My favorite flavor would have to be chocolate ghiradelli! Plus, it's pretty cheap, and the smallest size is still a pretty big portion (in my opinion). There's also a selection of toppings to choose from too! However, if you're just craving for that refreshing original yogurt flavor, just head over to Pinkberry's. Oh, and there's an underground parking which is pretty convenient for Westwood parking~
- Pros: flavors, parking, toppings
- Cons: not as fresh?
Yummy Froyo, great location, convenient

I am somewhat of a froyo connoisseur. let's just say i know my froyo and one thing i know for sure is that penguin's is the place to go for the world's best froyo. the froyo's always great. there's lots of variety from carbolite to wowcow. i would definitely try their peanut butter, chocolate ghiradelli, and cookies&cream. the place is usually busy at night so the service may be rushed butall the people are great once you get to konw them as a regular customer. doesn't hurt that they give you hefty portions which means more b ang for your buck. all you need to do is give me penguin's peanut butter with bananas on top and i'm a happy girl. YUM!
- Pros: BEST FROYO EVER, convenient, great value, good variety
fat free peanut butter!

great yogurt, rude service. I deal with it because their flavors and yogurt are so much better then other places! if you want low cal FF and low cal LF yogurt penguins is it!
- Pros: good flavors, good yogurt, cheap
- Cons: SERVICE
Good for your health, not for your happiness

The workers here are ALWAYS rude. Male or female they act like you are bothering them when you order. Be wary of some of the flavors, the quality is not consistent from machine to machine; the texture and solidity is always a little different. If you can visit another Penguin's in the area, I recommend it because at least you will treated like a valued customer somewhere else. The Big Chill is also across the street which serves frozen yogurt.
- Pros: location, variety
- Cons: VERY rude workers, quality variability
Worse service, great frozen yogurt

So I figure that the people that work there get paid NOTHING, because they like to give you the wrong change (if they "remember" to give you your change back at all). Yeah that's right if you're planning on going there remember to get your change back from them, so many times I've seen them do shady things, like not give people their change back, and when the customers do remember that they forgot their change the workers there deny it. And if you get really lucky and walk in the same time as the owners are there the workers will barley put any frozen yogurt in the cup.
The service is really bad. The workers there are always in a bad mood, its almost worth it to go across the street or not go at all.
Other than that they have really good yogurt, lots of selections of carbolite. I question if they change them everyday--doubt it. The peanut butter has been there for months and months.
- Pros: carbolite, wow-cow, variety of flavors
- Cons: Service, employees always in a bad mood, give you the wrong change
Good Value

The prices are reasonable, the servings are too. They have a variety of items including pies and cakes. They decorate too. They have convienent hours and are open everyday of the year. Sometimes they are very busy but they move the line well. Sometimes I don't think the machines are changed everyday and so sometimes the product is inconsistent but just taste it first! also, not always the brand they advertise on the machine label- may be higher in calorie than you think
- Pros: taste, value, convenience
