Kinchans IS totally underrated, it's never really crowded but their ramen is way better than Asahi Ramen down the street. They serve beer and wine here where Asahi Ramen doesn't. What am I suppose to drink with my ramen? coke? wtf? I had their Shoyu ramen this time ($5.95) along with a side of gyoza and Asahi beer.
Mom-and-pop shop serves made-to-order ramen, stir-fry and fried rice to hungry Westside locals amid California kitsch and Bob Marley posters.

In Short
Funky knick-knacks, rock and roll posters and cards from friends on the fridge add intimacy to the simple white interior of this Japanese noodle shop. Known for their ramen dishes, they also serve fried rice, stir-fry dishes, and Yakisoba, the Japanese version of chowmein. The a la carte menu, which is only available after 5pm, includes sweet and sour pork, sauteed liver and chives, deep fried chicken and vegetables cooked in oyster sauce. The exposed kitchen lets diners watch their food being prepared by the owner himself. He allows substitutions, unlike the famous Soup Nazi from "Seinfeld."
Small, modest place with excellent ramen

Great food, cheap! Service is very fast and accommodating. I've been eating here since I got to LA a year ago and it's one of my favorite Sunday morning eateries for noodles.
Simply the best Ramen in LA!

My husband and I have been coming for years. We have tried other ramen places but Kinchan consistantly outperforms other ramen places. We think its ramen taste far better than the other ramen restaurants on Sawtelle. Their spicy pork ramen is delicious and they give you very generous portions. The place is a bit small but we never had problems getting a table. The chef and waitresses are all very friendly. You've got to try it!
- Pros: best value, best ramen, friendly service

I love this place. This place is never packed yet dished out really good ramen. Most people in the Lil' Sawtelle Tokyo area go to Ramenya or Asahi Ramen (Zagat Rated). And Kinchan's is either underrated or just not easy to find since it's in the middle of a shopping center. I always get the Cha Siu Ramen (simmered pork)... and at $4.75, they really give you A LOT of food. The manager/cook is a nice guy, he'll nod when you come in and definitely appreciates returners (like me). My friends have had the mabo ramen, and love it. For those that have been to Ramenya, Kinchan's, in my opinion, broth is less saltier but the noodles aren't as good as Ramenya's. But for big eaters, come here and add another $1... the cook will basically double your noodles. Enjoy.
- Pros: $4.75 ramen, Quick service, No crowds

A friendly rest stop after work when you've got no plans, no energy, but a huge appetite. Get ready for their hearty portions and friendly staff. Prices are affordable and there's no problem for a party of one, as most are such during lunch and dinner. Parking available. Go for the Mabo Ramen!
