Just the Perfect Haircut!
by anusiia at Citysearch
Just got my hair cut at Taka Hair Salon and its fabulous! I have beautiful never-dyed/permed/treated long long hair, which I'm very fond of and very careful with. I hate going to salons because I have never been happy with the results... until now! Toshi cut my hair and gave me beautiful front layers. He got my hair lo...oking exactly the way I wanted it. Just perfect!
- Pros: very well cut hair by Toshi! exactly how i wanted it!
so happy with the results and the experience!

Does it get any better than this?! No, it does not. I went to get my hair relaxed a few weeks ago using the Keratin treatment and I have been raving about it ever since. I have extremely, extremely curly hair (ringlets) and it is very time consuming to dry and style it every day. However, I was a little hesitant to get the Japanese thermal straightening, which they also do here, because I like having body in my hair. I went for a free consultation and they were very helpful and not at all pushy. They suggested doing Keratin, which is a semi-permanent relaxer that holds for about 3 months and it still leaves body in your hair. It's also better when your natural curls start to regrow at the roots. It blends better than the Japanese thermal straightening. They also told me in my consultation that it would take about 3 hours. I went back the following weekend and Ken did my hair. He was super nice and kept asking me if he could get me anything, if I was comfortable through the whole process and what I especially appreciated was that he did the treatment in exactly 3 hours on the dot. He recommended products to use and also explained what ingredients I should avoid in shampoo in case I wanted to buy products elsewhere. Now my hair is easy to manage, super shiny and feels so much healthier. If you have ever considered Japanese straightening or Keratin GO HERE!! And if all of this wasn't perfect enough .. THEY ACTUALLY HAVE PARKING. Thank you Taka! I'll see you in Feb. for my next Keratin treatment.
- Pros: friendly, professional staff; keratin treatment!
- Cons: none whatsoever
my fave salon!

i wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair! i usually request kiyoko and she's fantastic! on a couple occasions i've had different stylists and i have always been happy with my experience. they are really meticulous and i love that they don't try and sell me products. i actually end up picking up a few things anyway :) they have bumble and bumble and this one japanese shampoo that's great for people like me who insist on washing their hair everyday. they also have different promotions and specials each month that are worth checking out.
- Pros: took a picture of a hair style that i wanted to try and they adjusted it to work with my hair type, looks great!
- Cons: expensive but it's worth it
BEST SALON IN LA!!!!
by Ellieburke at Citysearch
I have been looking for a good hair salon for a long time and I finally found it. The salon is so clean and what a great atmosphere! The hair stylists are meticulous and they really know their stuff. The girl that did my hair cut and color did EXACTLY! what I wanted and did above and beyond an amazing job. The salon is in sawtelle the heavily Japanese area, I am of mixed race half Japanese and half white so I have very difficult hair. They were great! I was afraid they would only know how to handle Japanese hair but they did an amazing job. There is also a bit of a language barrier that makes it kind of awkward at first but you get really comfortable really quickly and everyone is really nice and sweet. It was a little more expensive than I thought it would be but totally worth it and I will be a repeat customer! I am going back in 2 weeks for the Hair straightening they are famous for!
Just a few good things to know: they prefer their tips in cash and unless you speak Japanese it is kind of quiet so bring something to read.
- Pros: ambiance, air conditioned, friendly, great prices.... pretty much everything
- Cons: none
Excellent service and knowledgeable staff

I went to Taka for a Japanese hair straightening and LOVED it.
I have a busy schedule and needed to book my straightening for the day after my consultation. Not only was the person at the front desk was able to make room for my 6-hour appointment on such short notice (!), but I got an amazing stylist who did a wonderful job on my hair. She turned my stubborn, tight curls into smooth, silky, straight hair. And she gave me an awesome haircut, too! I have NEVER been happier with my hair.
The staff is helpful, patient and meticulous. They definitely know what they're doing...Taka is simply the best!
- Pros: Friendly staff, excellent service, free parking.
- Cons: A bit pricey, but worth every penny.
These people really know their stuff!

They were ready for me when I arrived. The service was awesome. I went in to have my hair colored to cover up the gray and was really worried because when I had it done once before, I got to pay over two-hundred bucks for red hair that was supposed to be brown! Not only did he do a perfect job - he explained every thing beforehand. Oh - and I paid a lot less.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly. There is ample parking and it is free. Prices aren't a secret. The people were genuinely warm and they don't take shortcuts like some other places on Robertson that charge twice as much! I am sooooo happy to have found Taka Hair Salon. I will never go anywhere else!
- Pros: skilled, excellent parking, more than reasonable prices, friendly staff, clean
- Cons: NONE
precision cuts at a great price

finally, finally, my long, tedious search for a hair salon is over! I've gone to practically every 'hipster' salon on the eastside, and although I got good cuts, they weren't exactly what I wanted. Where, oh where, can I find the perfect Japanese-layered cut? TAKA! Maki was great, took her time, and gave me exactly what I wanted. $60 for a cut was well worth it. Although highlights were a bit on the expensive side ($80 for partial color), I am still extremely satisfied and will be coming back. my search for a salon is finally over!
After your salon visit, be sure to stop by remo next door, as well as giant robot and black market across the street.

I LOVE LOVE this salon! I will forever continue to go to Taka Hair Salon! I have hopped around from salon to salon for years, but not anymore since I found TAKA! they are the best! they really take their time to make sure they do a perfect job! They are all very friendly, the environment is open and relaxed and the prices are reasonable for the amazing service they give! They also have top of the line products! I love their YUKO line, i am using the shampoo and conditioner and they make my hair soo soft and not frizzy at all! HIGHLY recommended! I am counting the days until i can go back to get the YUKO SYSTEM done to my hair, I can't wait! they are all pros!! PARKING IN THE BACK!
- Pros: They take their time with you and don't rush you!
Attentive, careful service

We have been going to Taka for about six years now. We originally started going there because we lived in the neighborhood, and we have continued to go even after moving to another neighborhood. The staff are conscientious, meticulous, and really friendly. While their advertising emphasizes their more specialized services like thermal straightening, they do an excellent job on a plain old shampoo and cut. The shampoo includes a scalp massage, which is a nice touch. I'm not sure how their prices compare with other places in LA, but my impression is that whatever they charge, its a great value. I have paid a lot more for haircuts in LA and have never been as satisfied.
