The Best Mole enchilladas!

by tchurch1981 at Citysearch

I love this place! I had never had Oxaquena style Mexican food before, but now I crave it. There mole is addictive. I also love the enchilladas with their string cheese, this is so interesting and good! I am going tonight to go and get some, yum!

  • Pros: Everything

Great regional food at a decent price.

by hh3stuff at Citysearch

This restaurant features food/flavor from Mexico's Oaxca region - famous for their chocolate infused Mole. The place is very clean and the atmosphere is fairly casual (the picture above is accurate depiction). The only part I didn't like was that the utensils were a bit old (my fork was badly bent, but was easily bent back), but you can't expect expensive silverware in such a casual place... so I highly recommended it.

Best flavors in the area!!

by echoparker at Citysearch

This place is epicureagasmic!! I made that word up specially to describe Guelaguetza. Homemade cheese shredded over oaxacan-chocolate-infused tangy sauces. Try the pork dish with the red sauce---it's to die for. Huge portions so if you are not starving, find a pal to go and get your fingers dirty with and share a dish with extra tortillas on the side. The sauce is fabulous--you'll want to take it home and the meat is slow-cooked and tender. I've had the chicken in black sauce and the pork in red and they are both wonderful. The drinks should be consumed with caution---they are very, very sweet but a unique experience if you've never had authentic Mexican drinks. Great place to get a belly-full of wonderful food!

Very unique and very good!

by hbriggs at Citysearch

This place had really interesting food, I've never been anywhere quite like it! I highly recommend the tamales, and any of the other menu items that involve their spectacular mole sauces. It has a pretty low-key atmosphere, and there is a store at the front of the restaurant that sells chiles, sauces, and other interesting food. This is a great place to go if you want to try something new and different on the cheap!

Great food, decent ambience

by revdillane at Citysearch

I can see how other reviewers might not love the decor, but it reminded me of a little Italian trattoria in the sense that the service was extremely friendly and wait staff highly knowledgeable (dare I say passionate!?) about their food, the tables were cute with loud checkerboard patterns, and the food was extraordinary. Now, obviously, this is Mexican and not Italian food, but you get the idea. The tamal in banana leaf (about $5.50 when I went - great value!)with black mole was extraordinary, the horchata was great (with little bits of nut and fruit in it), and even the chips and salsa with cheese and red mole was the best free appetizer I've had in LA! I definitely have to go back to try some other items on the menu, and I highly recommend the BYOB - no corkage fees, are you kidding? Where else will that happen?

  • Pros: food, service, value
  • Cons: none

Not THAT good

by ashwprincess at Citysearch

The mole is quite good here but I don't think it's worth the drive to K town for the food. The ambience is really dismal, it's like a high school cafeteria. It's great if you have a huge crowd coming into town but that is the only time I would recommend this restaurant.

Grasshoppers Please!

by ieatdungbeatleforbr8kfas at Citysearch

Yes! without a doubt the Mole is da bomb. I've had many kinds of restaurant mole before and I've had the best home-made mole, but this place's mole rocks! Truly authentic flavors. They put a lot o' love in the food. Awesome ambiance, excellent live music and dancing, and just great authentic Mexican food. No grated cheddar chese here. Only the real deal. But what I don't understand is why hasn't anyone mentioned the roasted Grasshopper appertizer served with avacado, onion, and tomato? Or the roasted Grasshopper empanadas? I'm not really a fan of insect cuisine or anything but it was kind of an adventure to have them and they're tasty. Live life and eat like a Oaxacan.

The service is excellent and you really only need a months worth of HS Spanish to get by. Quiero blank con blank y no blank.

A cool place for special occasions.

THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!

by jdash at Citysearch

Being a Latina, I am a devout crusader of authentic Mexican food and this place has garnered my highest praise for the best mole outside of Oaxaca. The chicken in mole coloradito is my absolute favorite. The sauce is at once unctuous yet delicate, comforting in its inherent richness of complex flavors. (If you are a true purist, you'll appreciate that they serve dark meat on the bone.) I come here often with friends, toting an igloo full of sangria (BYOB) and we always leave with a blissed out expression of utter appreciation and gratitude for yet another amazing meal. And don't forget to oder the taquitos too! Delicioso!

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly staff, Casual Atmosphere

"AUTHENTIC MEXICAN" Restaurant

by sc_xikana at Citysearch

Untainted by modern "fast food, overprocessed, americanization" , maintaining it's flavor of original mexican recipes. It is not for vegetarians, being that the majority of mexican recipes are not meant to be vegetarian. This is not a fast food restaurant, which is what gives it its HOME-LIKE feeling/ambiance, so prepare to actually wait for your meal to be COOKED! The owners and staff are mexican/oaxacan; therefore, brush up on your spanish. This is a place to sit down, RELAX , and TRULY enjoy your meal.

  • Pros: AUTHENTIC, Prices are Reasonable
