User Reviews for Mt San Jacinto State Park

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

When summiting San Jacinto, you can either do the 5.5mi trek up from the Tram (Called Tram to Clouds) or from the base to the Tram (Cactus to Tram) or from the base to the summit (called Cactus to Clouds--the single most difficult day hike in the US!). I've only done Tram to Clouds and had a blast! The summit's about 11,000ft and the views are breathtaking! Some cell phone carries work at the summit, though mine didn't. I'd love to come back in the winter for some snowshoeing/winter camping. Lots of tree cover from the Tram to the summit.

Pros: absolutely beatiful

Cons: gets dangerously hot in the summer; bring lots of water!

Editor's Review

High above the baking resorts of the Coachella Valley desert, this cool California aerie refreshes its visitors.  See the full editorial review.

Insider Tips

Drive in from the west or take the tramway up from the east. You can't drive up from Palm Springs.
