Nice breakfast spot
by Mila108 at Citysearch
I really enjoyed this place. Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were seated right away and searved right away. The atmosphere was pleasant. I couldn't complain about the food, it was good. Haven't tried the pie yet. Maybe next time.
- Pros: convenient
It's called House of Pies for good reason!
by jason2008 at Citysearch
If you like pie, like I do, this is the place to go. They have a large selection, although be forwarned that some pies on their list are "seasonal." The pies are really the best thing about this restaurant, which is really more of a diner. They have a parking lot, which is a major plus! I think of it more as a dessert place than anything else. The rest of the food menu is standard diner fare.
- Pros: The pies! The pies! The pies! Oh, and the parking!
- Cons: average food menu
Best Pie in Los Angeles
by lwmango at Citysearch
The pies alone are worth the jaunt to this Los Angeles institution. While the House of Pies serves breakfast all day and has a lunch/dinner menu packed with American classics like burgers, roast beef, and mashed potatoes, it's best to save room for dessert. Try a seasonal offering like creamy pumpkin or opt for the chocolate cream pie that has actual slices of banana embedded in the filling. Another favorite is their super creamy cheesecakes, topped with fresh fruit like strawberries. You can also pick up one House of Pie's confections to take home, including their pies, cheesecakes, and cookies.
- Pros: Parking lot, Cozy atmosphere, Convenient Location
- Cons: Slow service
Pies take the cake at this Loz Feliz institution.

In Short
Families, old timers, club kids and cops congregate on this trendy stretch of Vermont Avenue for inexpensive, country kitchen-style meals, desserts and bottomless cups of coffee. The always-busy dining room is brightly lit and colorful with floral carpeting, brass booth accents and faux ferns. An expansive menu includes buttermilk pancakes, open-faced turkey sandwiches and spaghetti and meatballs. But the highlight is the flaky-crust pie, available in fruit, chocolate, cream and meringue.

Welcome to the Default
by poppies77 at Citysearch
That this place is the default for hollywood diner-mongers says that it is good, but not shockingly good. You'll never leave amazed, but you'll never leave particularly dissatisfied, either. Please don't consider this a bad review, just know what to expect.
Average diner food
by pdt1965ca at Citysearch
Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. The food is okay, the place is dated the wait staff is helpful, although not much english understood anymore, but the food is above average with the salads being a true stand out. If you do pie I hear it's worth splurging on their fresh pies.
- Pros: Decent food, some parking, always available seating
- Cons: dated decor, spanglish staff who can be indifferent

Although I'm a pure Italian (and very proud to be) I love to live in LA as often as I can as well as I adore to go to the House of Pies as often as I can. Believe it or not, there I can find a delicious cappuccino Italian style with many other "delicatezze" for my breakfast.
If you go there Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays ask to be waited by Alexia: she is the best in suggesting, recommending, waiting and sometimes in listening to your problems!
- Pros: Recently remodeled , Good value for money , Very friendly
- Cons: crowded on Sundays
Best pies in Los Angeles! Possibly in CA
by emcmillin at Citysearch
Seat yourself! House of Pies serves the best selection of pies of any restaurant I've been to. Each pie is absolutely delicious, sometimes too rich to eat one by yourself. The service is average, similar to what you would expect at Denny's, but the desserts makes up for it. I recommend the pecan pie. I would also recommend their mozzarella sticks if you don't mind the fat and calories! The coffee is great also, as long as it's fresh! Great atmosphere for high school and college students.
- Pros: Convenient parking, inexpensive, great pies & coffee
- Cons: Terrible decor
