Worst Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles
by laperson
This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. From the moment we arrived the hostess was a totally rude and condescending. She ruined our night. She was on some surreal power trip towards everyone waiting to eat. This place is definitely not trendy any more and looks like a dump. I would rather eat at Del Taco. The service is much better and the customers and employees are treated with dignity.
Awesome Mexican Food with Homemade Taste
by davidarnerich
Authentic, mouth watering dishes that have a distinct homemade taste which is often so hard to find at Mexican restaurants in LA. Great service from nice friendly staff. It's a fun place to drink sangria, get a little rowdy, but all with good humor. I highly recommend it for any one looking for the best Mexican food in Los Feliz.
- Pros: Great Sangria and not too expensive
- Cons: It's a little loud but sometimes that's good right?
Nice Crowd
by mikeandbrian
I have never had a bad time at Mexico City. It has a great diverse crowd, no attitude, great waiters like
Victor, and good food. It's like going out and going home.
- Pros: Fun
- Cons: You hate to leave
great carne asada
by sustainablegabe
great food, quick service, traditional mexican dishes, and a great rotation of new variations on classic meals. I've been a few times, and I will certainly visit again soon. The carne asada is awesome!
- Pros: great food, great price
- Cons: more food than you can eat!
Good, Lethal Drinks, Food so-so
by iliketowrite
This place is a hipster haven, but fun atmosphere. The drinks are delicious and lethal! Yumm! One margerita almost did me in. The food, not so much. I had fajitas and they were bland and didn't come with any extras...not even sour cream. I would go back - but only to meet friends for drinks and apps.
- Pros: Lethal drinks!
- Cons: food not so great
Disappointment
by perenella
This is my first review at this site, and I'm sorry to say that Mexico City was a disappointment for me. Started with a whopping great martini on the rocks, two very good salsas (one tomatillo, one red) that came with the real tortilla chips - and then things fell apart. Service was very good. Food not so. Worst Tortilla soup I've ever had. Tasted as though they just heated up some tomato juice; it was way too acid. Waitress took it off my check. Shrimp Veracruzana was not the best I've had; again with acidy tomato sauce, which wasn't helped by the capers. I have no idea where the green olives were that were meant to be in the sauce. However, it was edible. It seems that the burritos are well liked, but I'm not a burrito fan. Would have liked to have tried one tamale as an appetizer, but they are served in pairs as a meal only, but I doubt I'll take the chance to return to try them. I make my own tamales.
- Pros: Parking
Mole Verde
by lost_angeles
All I have to say is mole verde! The best mole in town! And their tortilla chips? Mmmmm! Have a Margarita while your there to!
- Cons: The parking is not so good. The food took awhile to come.
Our favorite Mexican Resturant
by gu
This is our favorite Mexican Resturant. The servers are nice, it is very affordable, and the food is delicious and they give you a generous amount. It is my husband and my go to place. Whenever we leave, we are in a good mood because of the comfortable atmosphere, the good food and tasty Margaritas. We live in the neighborhood and we like to walk there. We have been there probably 10 times and only once did we have slow service, but they were still really nice. I highly recommend it.
- Pros: Food, Margaritas
Good food; terrible customer service
by champ19302
Being a new parent, finding time to go out to dinner isn't easy. That's why we were so disappointed with the awful treatment we received at Mexico City last weekend.
My husband called in advance to make a reservation and made sure to tell the person on the phone that there'd be 2 babies needing high chairs in our party. We were assured that we'd be accommodated.
When we arrived, the restaurant's 3 high chairs were all in use. We asked to speak to the manager. She came over to our table and was wishy-washy about the whole thing, saying that people came in off the street and needed the high chairs. She told us whoever we spoke to gave us wrong information and they couldn't reserve high chairs. Then she proceeded to say that they'd even purchased more high chairs to accommodate people with families (how many did they have before, 1?) We didn't even receive an apology. Then, she just kind of walked way from the table and didn't say anything else. She was quite rude.
The food was good, but needless to say we won't be returning.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Bad customer service
worst experience
by theworstexperience
After my experience this weekend I was compelled to write this. I had a decent dinner here on Friday evening and so I came back with my girlfriend on Sunday. While my burrito was acceptable, her "special tacos" meal was just terrible. Not wanting to say anything, she just picked at it until the meal was over and finally admitted to me that she thought there was something just wrong with it. I figured it would be no problem to just ask the waiter to remove the half-eaten dinner from our bill. He cleaned off our table and said he had to ask the manager and that's when things took a bizarre and ugly turn. Several minutes later our server told us that the manager would not approve voiding the dinner since we waited until the end of the meal to tell her about it and she felt we ate too much of it. I asked to speak to the manager and when she arrived she put both hands on the edge of the table and leaning over said "What's the problem?" I explained that my girlfriend's dinner wasn't very good and she had hardly touched it so we'd like to have it removed from the bill. "I won't do that," she said. "She ate all of it." I said, "You've got to be kidding, both tortillas are still on the plate with most of the meat." You know she said?..."We don't charge based on the tortillas, we charge based on the meat. You want me to bring it back out of the kitchen for you?" I know anyone reading this must be laughing by now, but I swear this is what happened. I said, "What's your name?" She answered, "Sylvia". I asked her, "Who's the owner? " "I am," she spat back at me. It took all my effort not to create a total scene so I just stared into space and told her to ring up the whole bill. She answered, "I'll get your server to do it," and walked away. I don't think I've ever had a more unpleasant experience anywhere.
- Cons: truly rude service
