Staff needs to be customer friendly!!!!!

I have been to VIM several times because i truly enjoy their Seafood Soup and Pad Thai. But what has stopped me going is the unfriendly waiters.
The waiters are very slow and never come around to make sure everything is okay. They seem to be annoyed by what they are doing and take it out on customers.
Also the place is rather dirty! Walls are stained and dirty and the floor looks as if it has never been mopped. I think they need to change the staff and clean up the place!!!!!
- Pros: the food tastes good
- Cons: unfriendly staff
I can't understand why this place is rated above 5! I could do better with packaged curries!

I am not sure what all the excitement is about. I have eaten a lot of Thai / Chinese food in my life, and this place ranks pretty low in terms of food taste and quality. The chicken in all of our dishes was tough and chewy. The flavors in all of the dishes were completely unremarkable. I thought I was going to discover another great find, and instead, I was sorely disappointed. What I also couldn't understand was that there were so many people there on a Wednesday night. There HAS to be better Thai food somewhere in this town. I'll have to keep looking, because it's not here at 5132 H-Wood Blvd!
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: You get what you pay for!
Americanized Thai food

I've had better Thai food at Osha and Yai's. This place is disappointing if you want authentic Thai food. The crab noodle is just some noodles with some crab meat on top, the soups aren't spicy but the portions are large enough for leftovers.
- Pros: Large portions, Cheap
- Cons: , Sloppily cooked food
It's the Thai food, not the trappings, that draws crowds to this no-frills find.

The Scene
Think strip-mall minimalism: The room is exactly the size of a convenience store and is packed with pink tables and red vinyl booths. Service, much like the decor, is perfunctory but pleasant enough.
The Food
With Bangkok tastes at Thai Town prices, Vim's traditional Thai dishes are legendary, especially its soups. The seafood soup's broth is a spellbinding contrast of coconut milk, lemongrass and chili oil. Large chunks of seafood lend the soup texture and a salty zing. The fiery-orange mounds of pad thai noodles are deliciously sweet--until, of course, you fold in the mound of chili powder lurking on the side of the plate. The one weak spot is the rubbery beef. Stick to seafood or poultry dishes, though, and you can't go wrong. Not in the mood for Thai? Vim also serves Americanized Chinese dishes, such as chow mein and chop suey.

The food is very good...been dining at Vim's since 1990. The service is quick but the ambience is not that great. Overall, this is a great place to dine with a group of people. The plates are rather large...soups are excellent!
Vim

Vim is located in the neighborhood of LA known as Thai Town. Approximately 10 blocks packed with some of the best Thai restaurants in the US. Vim targets American and Latino tastes. If you want to try more authentic (and tasty) Thai food Sanamluang, Palms, Yai, and Sapp would be a better bet. Vim offers predictable Americanized Thai Food.
- Pros: Price, Parking
- Cons: Food

I have been going with my family to Vim's since I was 5 years old and let me tell you, the food is so good...It has the best Thai spices possible. The sea food soup, by the way..is their specialty. It has the most tasteful sea food available and it not only appeals to your taste, but to your nose and eyes as well. The food is great..and I think it deserves more than just the seventh place!!
- Pros: inexpensive, good food!, great service
- Cons: crowded, bad parking, bad location
Easily one of the best in L.A.

Vim is part of the Holy Triumvirate of Thai restaurants in Hollywood (the others being Palms and Sanamluang Cafe). The fish soup is absolutely the best, full of huge chunks of perfectly-cooked fish and broth that is incredibly flavorful The decor is a little lacking (reminds me a little bit of fast-food establishments), but for great inexpensive food, you can't go wrong here.
