soooooooooo good!
by dthstar
i'm not into middle eastern food, but i always get 3 of their beef schwarma sandwiches at a time from here and pay extra for their large garlic paste! the pickled peppers and beets really add to the flavor of the hummus spread inside the sandwich. i've had the chicken too but don't care for it.
- Pros: awesome beef schwarmas
- Cons: you can't place large orders over the phone- you have to wait for your order outside the line
Garlic sauce, garlic sauce, garlic sauce, garlic sauce, garlic sauce!
by vsusa
The chicken is good, the food is cheap, but it's really all about the GARLIC SAUCE!!! Make sure not to go here before you go out for the evening or you will reek! It so good you want to keep eating it, and you do. And then your tongue hurts later. But it's worth it!
- Pros: Garlic sauce
- Cons: Not the best area
Quality suffering
by famousblueraincoat
I used to love eating here, but in the last couple of years, the quality has really gone down. The food is either too greasy (literally dripping out the bottom) or super dry on the tarna sandwiches. Don't even get me started on falafels (also very dry). Considering there are so many other locations now (particularly the West LA one and the Burbank one), I just don't bother anymore. Plus, the parking lot is small and frustrating. You could do worse, but you could also do a lot better.
- Pros: still a decent value
- Cons: sandwiches either dry or greasy, parking lot small
Far below Average, very disappointing
by addola
I lived in Saudi Arabia and thought this would give a reasonable Flafil and Shawarma. They both sucked. The Flafil was yellow from the inside (not rich) and the Shawarma was dry and not juciy and served with only tomatoes: No I don't recall ever putting tomatoes with Shawarmas. Shawarma should contain: pickeled cucmber, garlic paste, French fries and sometimes addition if greet salad or hot sauce. This is not the case here. I don't recommend it.
- Pros: Opens relatively late. Good for large groups.
- Cons: Bad quality food. Small portions.
Tasty Take Out
by moseschef
Armenian Fast food and its good stuff. The pita roll sandwiches are the geat with the chicken tarna (chx shwarma) is terrific, the garlic spread makes it so uniquely yummy. Good food and good value. Try not to take the seemingly unpleasant nature of the cashiers personnaly, they are really not so bad just overworked. Note that there are others Zankou's around, the new one on Splvd. and Olympic was perfect if a little more expensive than I remember the menu being.
- Pros: Price, quantity and flavor
- Cons: Too busy some times, inconsistant sometimes
Quality food at a reasonable price
by annmarie014
I enjoyed the food at this establishment very much. It is a very realxing environment. I also liked the variety of the menu and the different options i had. I liked the quality of the food very much and the price is also very reasonable for the amount of food that you are receiving. The one thing that i liked the most is their garlic sauce that they have. It is a very unique flavor and very tasty.
- Pros: Tasty food
- Cons: Parking
Eh... It's chicken
by coreysjunk
Just OK. Rather small menu and food was average. If you want good mediterranean, get Gyros and grape leaves from El Greco Cafe.
- Cons: Average, pricy

Garlic Butter Love
by tenkuken
It's all about the chiken and garlic butter! those suculent pieces of roasted heaven mixed with that oh so creamy garlic butter on a piece of pita. Oh man! I think I just had a food gasm! The service and food is always great. Oh and those yellow t-shirts are so awesome that I had to get one of my own.
Armenian roasted chicken that sizzles in the heart of Hollywood.
by Contributor
The Scene
The original Zankou Chicken isn't much to look at: a narrow slice in an unremarkable Hollywood strip mall. But the glowing critical accolades Zankou has garnered--blown up, framed and proudly displayed--foreshadow fabulous fare that will quickly make you forget the orange Formica and faux wood-paneled ambience.
The Food
Spit-roasted chicken attracts most of the attention and deservedly so. Tender, moist and permeated with flavor, it's rotisserie roasted to crisp perfection. But the rest of the menu easily meets or beats the bird. Soujouk is an Armenian beef sausage that takes the term spicy to new heights--not simply hot, it's a marvelous melange of fiery flavors combined with subtler nuances. The tarna sandwich (chunks of spit-roasted chicken slices) is much milder, though no less complex. Then there are the sides--tabbouleh, hummus, zippy stuffed grape leaves and a divinely addictive mutabbal (baba ghanouj).
