I must be a punk Because I can't Handle it
by vivaciousdivah
I don't know if I have reviewed this one...but it says the doctor wouldn't approve of the cholesterol filled fried chicken and syrup drenched waffles. But contrary to my belief, my appetite didn't approve of it either. Just not a good mix for me. I will leave this restaurant to the California natives.
Decent Food For A Decent Price

While in vaction in LA, we JUST HAD to visit many of the landmarks including Roscoe's. Not reading any reviews about this location, we had no idea what to expect. We went one night during the week at about 7pm. We lucked out and parked just about 60 feet away. As we approached, the big black man (security?) told us to go right in.
Inside it was super small. The "main" dining area had about 15 tables total and they were all close together.
We opted for the "back room" which was one big room (next to the kichen) with booths and tables spread out with plenty of room.
Our waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was very chill. I got a plate with half a chicken and two over easy eggs and toast, and no waffles suprisingly enough. It was all right i guess. My GF got a plate wtih a quarter of a chicken with waffles and she loved them.
The people there during our time there seemed to be a pinch of locals and mostly tourtisty types like ourselves.
It might have been too early or something for it to be loud and busy.
- Pros: Good Chicken, Decent Waffles, Decent Price
- Cons: None
where else can you get a chicken and waffles combination?
by akemi14
everyone talks about chicken and waffles because not many restaurants serve chicken and waffles so that's why i love it. The chicken is good and waffles is good with a cinnamon flavor to it. I guess when i go, it's not too busy so my experience wasn't so bad, try to go when it's not so busy. The combination is really good and i believe that this roscoes is the original one, there are others as well.
- Pros: food,
- Cons: no parking, service (sometimes)
This soul food institution is a cholesterol-drenched guilty pleasure.

The Scene
Roscoe's offers no-frills decor, but patrons aren't here for the furniture. If planning a Sunday lunch, show up early: It's a favorite brunch spot for locals, with families arriving in their Sunday best.
The Food
An L.A. institution immortalized in flicks like "Swingers" and "Pulp Fiction," Roscoe's is not for the cholesterol-conscious crowd: Fried chicken mixes with gravy-smothered hash browns in dishes that cardiac patients ought to avoid. Newcomers should order the Scoe's Special--chicken and waffles, of course--but return visitors should check out other soul-food staples like the giblets and rice with gravy and onions. The waffles themselves are fluffy and slightly sweet, so be careful not to drench them in too much syrup and butter. For breakfast, get the Big Mama Special--scrambled eggs perfectly blended with onions and cheese--and Big Mama, one of the waitresses, might even serve it to you.
Go, just to say that you did.

If your visiting L.A. you do need to eat here. If going during peak meal hours, plan on waiting a while out on the street as there is no room to wait inside. You'll want to order the chicken and waffles of course, just to say that you did. But dont get your hopes to high on the taste. The fried chicken is good, but by no means great. Same goes for the waffles. When they are busy, service is attrocious, so be patient. Price is fair.

If this is what you crave...nothing can beat it! My favorite is the chicken omelet....sounds crazy, but its delicious. And of course anything they do is with southern love and will leave you full, but wanting more. Great LA staple, everyone should try!
- Pros: food
- Cons: none
Odd combination, but suprisingly good
by hangdawg
Down home food, makes you think you're in the south. Great chicken and the combination with the waffles and syrup, which without tasting it sounds REALLY odd is really quite good. Great service, friendly staff. I'd highly recommend this joint.
Great Waffles

This restaurant surprised me. I came with a friend, liking fried chicken, but not really eating it often. I loved the food. It was spectacular chicken and the waffles taste better than any I've ever had. I got the Carol C.'s I can't go that much because the meals are so heavy, but when I do go, it's delicious. The only problem with it is the wait. It's not very organized and we had to wait for at least a half an hour both times I was there. Go, see for yourself about the chicken and waffles.
- Pros: FOOD
- Cons: Parking, and the wait
delicious comfort food!!

I've been here a few times but went again because my boyfriend had never gone. We ended up waiting about an hour and fifteen minutes (Sunday at 1PM)...which wasn't pleasant but is to be expected. The chicken is always delicious, moist and juicy on the inside, packed with flavor and the best fried chicken I've had anywhere. I'm not as big of a fan of the waffles, which if you don't drench in syrup can be a little dry. He got the fried chicken with gravy which was really good also. Just a note, he usually eats like a horse and even he could barely finish the 1/2 chicken with 2 waffles special, so be forewarned. Cornbread was decent although I thought it was a bit expensive at $2 for one piece. Overall, food is delicious, service is lacking but not surprising since it's not exactly a fancy sit down meal. If you've never gone, you definitely have to try it!!!
- Pros: best fried chicken anywhere
- Cons: parking is a pain, be prepared to wait in a long long line
forget the hype

What an incredible disappointment.
The service was decent, while the restaurant itself was a bit small. I didn't mind that it was cramped and poorly lit because that gave it a bit of atmosphere, almost.
He got the chicken(southern style) and waffles, and I got the red beans, rice, corn bread and fried chicken (thigh). We also shared a salad between the two of us.
The side salad was small for its price. Pretty standard lettuce, tomato, carrot, with some slices of celery and radishes.
The fried chicken was boring and borderline dry. There was absolutely nothing spectacular about this chicken. The waffles were soggy and somewhat small.
My red beans and rice tasted like boiled red beans with uncle ben's rice from a box. I also did not like the cornbread because it was dry and not sweet at all ( I like it a tiny bit sweet).
I can't understand what all the commotion is about this place. If you are going to make some novel combination like waffles and chicken, at least try to make it taste good
