Though it sits in the ominous shadow of the Scientology Celebrity Center, this local shop is a shining star of used music, books, movies and other memorabilia.

Located along Franklin Avenue's block-long stretch of cool (Bourgeois Pig coffeehouse and Birds cafe are neighbors), this laidback shop is a pack-rat paradise of of used books and records. Slackers, shoegazers and other boho types flock here for the floor-to-ceiling selection of dog-eared classics (everything from "Wuthering Heights" to "On the Road"), anthropology textbooks, literature, poetry and other obscure tomes. There's also a handful of alphabetized bins that hold hundreds of decades-spanning discs, DVD castoffs and deliciously old vinyl. Store clerks are helpful (if you ask) and unlike most secondhand dens, the musty smell is kept to a minimum thanks to the front door that stays open day and night.
I found it!

There's an out-of-print book that I read in college about 10 years ago, and loved, but I'd lost my copy. I'd looked for it every time I'd been in a used book store since then, with no luck.
But I found it at Counterpoint.
