The Real Deal for Exotic Ice Cream in the Heart of H'Wood
by Goldie M
Rumor has it that Mashti’s is the oldest ice cream join in Hollywood. That’s why its such a surprise that so many people haven’t tried it out. Then again, the fact that it’s in one of the sketchier late night mini-malls around might have something to do with it. But braving the local color and uber-tight parking lot more than pays off once you get a taste of the homemade Persian frozen delicacies like Safron Rosewater Ice Cream (their signature). Personally, I’m a fan of the more plain jane flavors like pistachio and chocolate chip – especially in the awesome “Clone Cone” form (a Clown Cone with another cone placed on top) – which have the natural flavors and creaminess you really want if you’re gonna take a Fro Yo break and splurge the calories on the real thing. If either Mashti – or his brother Mehdi – are there, introduce yourself and they’ll be more than happy to chat you up with the history of ice cream in Persia/Iran and how the unique rosewater-based flavors they specialize in.
- Pros: Authentic Persian rosewater flavors and homemade TLC
- Cons: Sketchy locale for late night outtings
I want more

Great ice cream at a wonderful price. I wish they had more locations. I got exactly what I wanted at a cheaper price than most places.
- Pros: Price
- Cons: None
Excellent exotic ice cream!

I heard this place from Channel 9! I decided to order from their website. It melts in your mouth and the taste lingers! I hopefully can visit the store soon!
The Best Ice Cream Anywhere
by marpop
Started by brothers Mashti and Meddhi (spelling?) using old Iranian recipes (they put Rosewater in some of their flavors), this is by far the best ice cream shop experience you will ever have. This is the real deal folks. You will never want frozen yogurt again. You have to try their Ginger ice cream - so creamy and spicy/sweet - it's the best! I also love their Orange Blossom ice cream. Sure, they still have the more familiar flavors - I especially love the Peanut Butter Cup ice cream. If you're lucky one of the owners will be there - they are both real friendly. We have been there before when one of the owners passed out free samples of special middle eastern delicacies (candy, etc.). This is a very special place. If you love ice cream , then you need to try this place out.
- Pros: unique flavors, quality of ice cream, friendly owners
- Cons: parking can be difficult, but spaces are available
Unique flavor perhaps...
by tinkerthinker
...but ice creams that taste like flowers is not my idea of a great dessert. I would not have given a poor rating based on just that, however. My reason for rating this place as I have is that it is NOT clean and service was just so-so. The overall feel of the place is that it's old and not kept. Signage shows age and dust. We had to wipe the table we sat at. We got our ice creams from the "not particularly friendly" attendant (we were the only customers there), and then he disappeared into the back of the store. If you're taking your ice cream to go and are in the mood for floral flavors, this may be the place for you. If you like to sit and enjoy your ice cream in a clean enviroment, I'd advise skipping Mashti Malone's.
- Pros: Floral ice cream flavors if that's your thing
- Cons: Zero atmosphere, store needs a thorough cleaning
Adventurous Eaters Must Try the Rosewater Icecreams!
by rikkytikky
I have eaten both the rosewater icecream and the regular ice creams here, and think that both are fabulous. For the adventuorus and open minded, you must try on of the rosewater ice creams, with the herbed ice beads on it! Truly unique, and strangely delicious! Also try the sour cherry and fresh lemon juices in bottles on the tables. For those who are less adventurous, Mashti Malone's homemade ice creams are still worth the trip.
- Pros: Ice Cream for the Adventursome as well as the traditionalist
- Cons: none
homemade ice cream in Hollywood
by latruchaloca
I figure that most of the people reading this are ice cream aficionados, like me. You're bored with the same place and same thing you get at chains. So you want to try different ice creams, especially homemade ice creams. Maybe you're even looking for the Holy Grail of ice creams, something so divine your taste buds will be born again. Well, although I'm still looking for the Holy Grail, I can say that I do enjoy Mashti Malone's because it meets the other criteria I look for (i.e., unique, homemade, not the same place/same thing). Probably their most unique hook is their rose water and saphron ice creams. These are Middle Eastern-style ice creams; you also have some syrups at the tables that are meant to be poured on top of these ice creams. To be honest, those just aren't my style. They aren't bad, so you should try them. But I'm more of a traditionalist. Anyways, like I said, Mashti Malone's makes their own ice cream. I think they're pretty good and it gives you something new to try. Also, I've always found the owner/workers to be very pleasant. Finally, I challenge you to try my special: a shake with one scoop of chocolate and one scoop of strawberry (it's a chocolate-covered strawberry taste).
Now, a note about parking--Mashti Malone's in just one store in a mini mall of stores (one of which is the "Lava Lounge," a grimy rock bar or something). The lot is usually full. However, Mashti Malone's has several spots reserved for their customers (basically right in front of their store), so 95% of the time I can pull right in to one of those.
- Pros: unique homemade icecream (from traditional flavors to exotic)
- Cons: sometimes all parking spaces are taken
Best ice cream ever!
by chickadeedeedee
I bring all my out-of-town guests here first thing! Why get plain old chain-store ice cream when you can try ginger-rosewater or saffron-rosewater ice cream instead? This is what ice cream should be: flavorful, rapturous, and still lingering after you finish without being overly cloying. The staff is very friendly and helpful too, and the prices are reasonable. Perfect little ice cream shop!
the most unusual ice cream
by margie2265
we just tried this last night and found it really interesting. we tried samples of the rosewater (really unique), the rosewater saffron with pistachios (delicious), the ginger rosewater (not my fave), and the turkish coffee flavor. i settled on the creamy rosewater, while my husband had that and a scoop of the turkish coffee. there are regular flavors there as well, but who would want that when you can have something more interesting? can;t wait to go back when they have the pomegranate sorbet!
- Pros: unique ice cream, reasonable prices, open late
- Cons: dicey neighborhood
Please Sample it first
by kitz
My friends and I are Huge foodies. Since so many people raved about this place, we had to check it out. I neglected to sample the ice cream and alas, I hated every bite of it. The strong fragrance made it feel like I was eating roses. So PLEASE, if you never had it before, sample it first and decide whether you want to have regular ice cream or rosewater ones.
