Breakfast
by Irma4415 at Citysearch
Me and my brother went for breakfast last sun> at La Serenata at the pico blvd. Next to the Landmkark theaters. Oh my god we had the most incredible breakfast, and even the pancakes were better than i thought, i didn't expect pancakes this good at a mexiacan restraunt. But i asked the waitress the place was so empty and she said most of our costumers dont no that we offer breakfast. I highly recommend this place for breakfast, and dont forget the margaritas too.
- Pros: Best breakfast in L.A.
Finally! We've found what we were looking for...
by visa at Citysearch
If you're looking for quality Mexican, this is it. Rice so soft, it melts in your mouth, beans flavorful not fatty, sauces that are understated yet complex...simply delicious. In a world where restaurant mediocrity comes with a high price, this meal is worth every penny.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: ?
Great Service, Good food!
by oprygirl at Citysearch
We just had a dinner at this restaurant for a party of 20 people. The service was great and the food was really tasty. Prices are reasonable. Order their seafood. They are known for it! The salmon was really good and so was their halibut. The guacamole is a must taste!
INCOMPETENT STAFF -

I was there recently and I have to say I was not at all happy with the host or the actual place. First of all the reservation I made a week in advance was not on their reservation book. After looking at their reservation book its not surprising, it looked as if they jot down the reservations on scrap paper to later add or not add to the actual reservation book!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say we drove all the way down there for nothing and the area is not the safest place to be in on a Saturday night or any night for that matter.
I do not recommend this place at all the staff is rude and totally unaccommodating!
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
Definitely not worth the money!
by peech22 at Citysearch
Ambience was okay, however, the food was NOT good and far from authentic! I ordered a shrimp dish while my husband ordered Asada Tampiquena...Definitely not worth the money...too overpriced!! The shrimp was completely flavorless, no salt, pepper, garlic, lemon...lacking all the basics. The only thing worth ordering is a strawberry marguerita.
- Pros: Romantic
- Cons: Expensive, Not authentic
wonderful.

La Serenata is just wonderful. This location is especially great (though Santa Monica is lovely as well), because they almost always have mariachi players live (due I'm sure to the fact that they're half a block away from Mariachi Plaza). The food is fantastic, service and ambience are great. A great fancy dinner if you're in the area, and a more authentic scene than the other locations. Try the cilantro fish. It's to die for. All all of their soups are delicious, especially the pureed mushroom.
- Pros: ambience, valet, delish
Great authentic Mexican food!

The food was excellent and the tres leches dessert, its to die for!
- Pros: Authentic Mexican Foo, Moderately Priced, Cozy settings
- Cons: Bad Location, Small Restaurant, Service a little slow
I'd Rather Go To The Santa Monica Location
by jjtwister at Citysearch
As a frequent customer of the Serenata in Santa Monica, I was disappointed in the original location. The fish and sauces were still amazing. We had a fresh sardine empanada that rocked! However, the place feels like a restaurant in generic hotel. The service was so-so. Be warned, they only have a beer and wine license. No tequila!
- Pros: Seafood, Sauces
- Cons: No tequila, Ambiance

Be prepared to be pampered... we went in the late evening about 2 weeks ago. It was fine dining atmosphere.... NO RUSHING so be prepared this is a experience not to be rushed. I didn't like the Sangria but my BF had a delicious chicken that I believe was cooked under a brick. They have a variety of sauces to choose from for the entrees that range from Spicy, Hot to Mild. This is the restaurant the was featured on FOOD NATION with Bobby Flay on the Food Network.
- Pros: Variety of the Menu
- Cons: , No Full Bar
Mouthwatering gems from the sea are the mainstay at this Boyle Heights Mexican food institution.

The Scene
When Chef/owner Jose Rodriguez opened La Serenata de Garibaldi a decade ago, he was the first to dangle the bait of fine Mexican seafood before Angeleno eaters. Since its remodeling in 2000, the folk art decor has made way for a subdued, whitewashed look with imposing Moorish pillars punctuating the dining room.
The Food
Fresh seafood bathed in spectacular sauces are the best catch on this menu, with nearly a dozen rich, complex concoctions to choose from. Start with the fisherman's cocktail, a huge bowl of sweet-spicy chilled tomato sauce bobbing with chunks of white fish, scallops and shrimp. A selection of fresh fish, mahi mahi, sea bass and halibut, is enhanced with masterful sauces: the vampire-repelling mojo de ajo, smoky chipotle, spring-green cilantro, or huitlacoche (a corn fungus delicacy that's much better than it sounds). Fish phobics needn't worry, antojitos and chicken and beef dishes are also served.
