BEST thai in town!
by alh73 at Citysearch
I've lived in the neighborhood for 9 years and have been going here the whole time on a regular basis. (both eating in and ordering delivery). I always enjoy the food & friendly service as well as the trippy black-lit paintings and intricate wood carvings in the back room! Only once in all these years did I have a bad meal, it must have been an off night. My fave dishes are the panang and massaman curries, mee krob, BBQ chicken, larb, and secret string beans. They recently revamped their menu and raised their prices slightly, but I still think it's excellent value for the money.
- Pros: great food, ambiance, service
- Cons: no parking lot
Not Worth Your Money

On the website the buffet lunch is $9.95 but they charge $11.95. Guess they charge more but don't care to update prices on their website . Lunch Buffet Quality: Don't get fooled ; No seafood , limited number of items, though they claim they offer 14 daily , I counted 10 only. One tofu item. Some chiken and beef.
Fruit watermelon only. No drinks or dessert included. Difficult to find parking. Bathroom not clean.

I have been going to Natalee's Thai on Robertson and Olympic and love it. When I moved to West Hollywood, I thought I was going to die of hunger. FindinG Chao Krung was a blessing. I am regular. I go there for my lunch, dinner and my business meetings. It's even on my speed dial. AWESOME PLACE !
Anything on the menu is excellent ...

These people dropped a menu off on my door, then upon calling to order delivery they tell me they don't deliver to my house! What a waste of paper, not to mention money spent on whoever they paid to pass out flyers. Went to their website to check on delivery area and surprise! Looks like they forgot to renew their domain name. I can't see this place being open much longer no matter what the food tastes like, just being honest...
- Pros: Not sure, after putting menu on my door they wouldn't deliver food to me
- Cons: False Advertising
HIGHLY DO NOT SUGGEST!

I've eaten some of the best Thai food around, again and again and again. And I'm not just an angry person venting at all, this was honestly the worst food I've ever had, and I opted to try it from the fairly good reviews I've read on here. I've driven by Chao Krung a thousand times, and decided to give it a try. They first said delivering from their Beverly -Fairfax location was too far to my Pico-LaCienega dwellings. OK, I'll pick up. The classic Tom kha coconut soup was so salty it was inedible. The black pepper garlic tofu was steamed tofu chunks sitting in a completely bland broth. After trying to order Pad Kee Mao (a spicy version of pad see ew), I stuck with the Pad "zew" because they seemed clueless as to what Pad kee Mao even was. The Pad zew came completely dry, none of the gravy that it ALWAYS comes in at ANY Thai place, and I twice bit into GIANT pieces of egg shell. VERY appetizing. I considered perhaps it was very busy that night, then remembered it was 5:30 when I picked up my food from a completely empty restaurant. I guess I can admit the side of brown rice was the highlight of the meal.
not bad...

for the price it was worth it. i had a green papaya salad with shrimps, it wasn't that good, i have had better ones. the curry my husband had, was good, but what can you do wrong on a simple chicken curry dish? the coctails they have there are really great though, i would just go back for the drinks!
- Pros: great service, very friendly
Thai this one on!

This former NYer also rates this place highly! Great value...great food. Terrific buffet at lunch and dinner adds further bang for your buck! Dark and cozy. If not overly romantic you can make it so. I've only gone for lunch and don't know how crowded it gets at night but the staff has always been eager to serve and friendly. Another foodie recommended their ribs. If you're at the Grove down the street try this place instead of the Farmer's Market for a better value!
- Pros: great food, great prices, parking in the back
The best Thai I have found so far in LA....

After moving here from NYC a year ago, I had yet to find a good Thai place in LA. This is the place I was looking for..excellent food, not overpriced, delivery- eveything you would want. Great Pad Thai, Massaman Curry and peanut sauce.

Excellent Thai Food!

Chao Krung has outstanding Thai food. I've spent some time in Thailand, and Chao Krung's food ranks up at the top of LA Thai joints. The Mussaman Curry is excellent, as is the Pad See Iw and Pad Thai. The prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is cool. I probably eat there/get takeout once per week and they've never been off the mark.
- Pros: Excellent food
- Cons: Parking
