Dissapointing

Unauthentic Cajun food..... jambalaya very disappointing... the accompanying sides were awful. The staff gave the impression they really do not like their job. Poor value for money.

Authentic (NOT)

This place likes to sell itself as authentic Cajun cuisine. Well, if New Orleans was renowned for miserable customer service and crap food, this place would be the real deal.

My girlfriend had the Gumbo Ya Ya and I had the Chicken & Shrimp Jambalaya..... very poor.... could have made it better from a packet myself. The food wasn't that cheap either. Won't be going back.

Authentic!

I was born in New Orleans and have been raised with lots of cajun cooking and this place is Authentic!! It really sticks to the traditional menu with items like gumbo, po boys, fried catfish, etc. Everything was delicious and not too pricey. I came here on for Fat Tuesday and they had a cute little celebration, but I was sad when they ran out of beignets! I can't wait to go back here and try more of the menu.

Yummy Po'Boy and Beignets!

I've never tasted a sandwich as fresh as the one here at The GumboPot. Gotta try their oyster po'boy and you cant go wrong with their deal of 3 beignets (french doughnuts) --either original or with chocolate--with chickory coffee. All this and you'll feel as if you're in New Orleans at Cafe Du Monde!

Cajun and Creole specialties satisfy hungry diners--without emptying their wallets.

Even though it's in the middle of the Fairfax Farmers Market, it's remarkably similar to a stroll through New Orleans' Vieux Carre. The French Quarter muffaletta sandwich is neater than its N.O. counterpart, but still served warm on crusty bread. The Creole mainstay, gumbo, comes in two versions, milder seafood (brimming with shrimp and crab) and the ya ya (spicier, kicked up with sausage and shrimp). Some diners simply stick to classic red beans and rice.

Great Cajun

The food here is very good and very reasonably priced with a very good variety. It is in the farmers market that has places like loteria, and other greats! The location is awesome, the food is very good, and the prices are right. If you havent been to the farmers market, you should, and if you been to the market but havent tried this cajun place, now is the time to pop in and give it a try. It is the second or third best place in all of LA county (that I have tried so far). The very best in my opinion is still the New Orleans in Hermosa Beach, but I doubt I will find a place better than that one.

Where else can you eat fried alligator in L.A.?

This is a great little spot tucked away in the Farmer's Market (near The Grove). Pretty much everything is great there, but you owe it to yourself to try the fried alligator tail. A few minor complaints: 1) they only have lukewarm canned sodas. 2) The table-and-chair seating nearby fills up quickly. 3) The order-takers/cooks take their sweet freakin' time, regardless of how long the line might be. 4) One at least one occasion, the jumbalaya was 99% rice and 1% andouille sausage. That being said, give it a try!

• Cons: Slow service, seating can be a challenge

GOOD!

I have never been to New Orleans so I do not know what real authentic Cajun food taste like. I had the Gumbo Ya-Ya and it was pretty good. If I go next time I will ask for a little more rice and a little less stew (excuse me for using the word stew if it is incorrect). The Gumbo had a lot of sausage in it. It comes with killer cornbread and a choice of side which I chose sweet potato salad. It was a very good deal.

Disappointed lately

Been going to Farmer's Market for years now. Frequented most of the restaurants there including the Gumbo Pot on a weekly basis. Recently really disappointed with service and food. Went there on a Friday at 8PM, ordered Fired Chicken, a newer dish by them. Muffin was aweful. Had a hard brown crust about 3/4 of an inch all around and was dry, hard and overcooked as if it were a week old. Muffins used to be great, actually ordered dozens of them in the past for parties. Chicken had burnt flavor (not blackened) as if the oil cooked in was old. Asked for replacement for the muffins, my wife and I each, they growled that they were all like that and offered no replacement. Trashed most of the meal. Next time try brazilian place, there is a reason that line is down the hall. Thank God for competition!

Great spot for some really good Gumbo. Been going for years, whenever I'm in the area, and always end up with the Gumbo. Highly recommended - I sometimes drive over from Sherman Oaks for my "Gumbo Fix"
