Worst Thrift Store "Out of the Closet"

by lele1

I tried donating several pieces of furniture to this thrift store. The person who answered the phone and the manager were extremely condescending, had an nasty additude. They kept telling me that if I did not have a hutch to donate to them "they were just not interested".

The cause is right, the staff is wrong. I called the Salvation Army and they will be here in the morning to pick up two very expensive night stands. I WOULD NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THESE HATEFUL PEOPLE AGAIN!

  • Pros: The do raise money for aids
  • Cons: The staff is nasty. They need an additude adjustment

spiteful and awful people...go somewhere else

by flvrlove23

The people that run this store are small, spiteful and awful people. They may raise money for a worthy cause, but in the mean time they feel perfectly comfortable degrading people who are patrons of their store. I can guarentee that I will no longer shop there nor will I ever give another penny to the cause that they raise money for. Shame, shame, shame on them.

  • Pros: cheap
  • Cons: jerks run the place

Great Thrift store for Books and Clothing

by fmminformation

The prices are a little high for a thrift store however if you really look and go often you will find all kinds of cool clothing and good brands that would be four times as much right around the corner on Melrose. This thrift store has a particularly large and interesting book selection. Especially books about film and the media.

  • Pros: Fantastic values on name brand items
  • Cons: Like any other thrift store you have to go through alot of junc.

Sassy thrift store chain is a fixture in L.A.'s fight against AIDS.

by Contributor

In Short
This L.A. institution on the thrift shop circuit benefits the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Inside, expect a haphazard smattering of furniture, clothing and housewares, some of which is a solid step up from Goodwill and Salvation Army inventories. A hodgepodge of folks patronize the place, from college kids looking for first apartment furnishings to seasoned bargain hunters. The staff is approachable and strives to be helpful.

Go To The Other OTC Stores Instead!

by mimalgato

This used to be the flagship store of the entire OTC chain, until a few years ago. Then the prices got ridiculously high, the quality of the merchandise was poor, and the staff got so rude and snippy that we no longer shop here, and it was our weekly "must do" for many years.

I used to walk out of this OTC with so many bags of clothes that I practically couldn't carry the stuff to the car. Now, if I even stop there I spend less than five bucks, where I once spent $100+ per visit.

Check out the other stores in the chain instead, esp. the SF Valley stores. Of note is the Canoga Park Store (Owensmouth/Sherman Way) and the Tarzana store (Ventura Blvd. just past Reseda), but you will probably be disappointed with the Fairfax OTC, and that is just a shame, because they used to rock.

  • Cons: , Rude Staff, Prices Are Outrageous
