Pretty darn good
by chilldude09
So far I have been to this place two times and my experience with the food has been really good. I usually get the seafood saltado. But on the other hand, the only one complaint I have is the bad service. The second time I went there, the waitress had more preference over these other people who were already there by constantly asking if their meal was ok and if they need anything and as for us she didn't care to stop and ask if things were cool until we were finished. The first time i went there, another waitress had an attitude problem. But so far so good =)
- Pros: Good serving size
- Cons: Bad service
Eat the Steak Saltado
by bkbigfish
Must highly recommend the Steak Saltado. I dip the bread they give you in the spicy green sauce...very addictive. A must if you're in LA.
- Pros: food is just incredible
- Cons: Decor...but who cares when the food is soooo good
Best Restaurant in 5 square miles!

Before eating here I had never tried Peruvian food, but ever since i first came here, i've been eating Mario's at least once a week. With an array of choices, you can't go wrong with their saltado (a dish that has meat mixed with sauteed onions and tomatoes, french fries and rice). I get their shrimp version everytime, but the beef and chicken are good too. Their dish called Jalea (a potluck of different fried seafood topped with lime juice and a salad mix) is awesome as well and a great alternative. I've come here so often that they have started to recognize me. All the waitresses are great.
This place is soo popular that on weekend nights the line is out the door. I suggest calling in and picking it up.
- Pros: Saltado, Seafood, fast service
- Cons: Long lines (Call in food), Closes early
Seafood specialties from the Southern Hemisphere.

In Short
Tucked in a tiny Hollywood mini-mall, this SoCal Peruvian favorite buzzes with fish fans. Okay, so the stripped-down interior won't win any design awards, but the autographed photos from Latin celebs attest to this joint's popularity. Peruvian seafood cooking relies on super-fresh ingredients, and the interplay between hot and sour flavors is what gives it that zing. Mario's offers a shrimp ceviche offset by boiled potatoes, and green mussels on the half shell are piled high with pungent fresh salsa.

Amazing food
by la_dweller
I've only gone to Mario's once, but I just can't stop talking about it. Great taste, huge servings at a very reasonable price. Their fries are delicious. I highly recommend the ceviche, which has boiled eggs and gives it a unique taste. I parked a couple of blocks away and then walked there. The parking is horrible, and the decoration is very poor. But if you're looking for good food and nothing more. This is it. It only took one time, and Mario's became one of my favorite restaurants in LA.
- Pros: food, cost, huge servings
- Cons: parking, long wait, not very pretty
Yummy Yummy Yummy

Don't be discouraged by the low-key setting, this restaurant seemed to be one of L.A.'s biggest Peruvian foodie havens. People came from far and away to wait in line for half an hour just to sit at one of the basic tables and devour the Saltado dishes (seafood, chicken and or beef). Since the presentation of this popular dish didn't appeal to me personally, I opted for the steamed red snapper in wine sauce, and by golly, it was DELICIOUS. I am so exicted i couldn't finish the huge dish, so that I can enjoy some more of it tomorrow.
- Pros: great smell when you walk in, pescado in wine sauce, CHEAP price tag
- Cons: awkward waiting around in the middle of the restaurant with no place to stand until table was ready
Best Comfort Food
by lolitanbuck
I love this place! It is the most delicious comfort food out in all of LA. I have read the review about how the service is bad, they are just really busy and still deliver your food in record time. It has always been delicious and consistent. If you haven't gone you must go!!!
- Pros: Lomo Saltado, LOMO SALTADO, LOMO SAAAAAAAAAAAALTADO
- Cons: parking
You Must Go!
by lalaloulindy
You know how ppl say "Wow, this is the BEST place ever," and it is truly average or worse.....Well, that is not Mario's. They have the BEST food ever, coupled with average service, bland ambience, and average prices. Yet the food is so delicious that the cons are overlooked in my book.
If you like beef order the: LOMO MONTADO
If you like seafood order the: PINCANTE DE MARISCOS.
Yum.Happy eating and enjoy!
- Pros: Amazing food
- Cons: Bad parking, mediocre service and ambience.

- Pros: good food. decent servings.
