Great Silverlake Casual Dining
by Michael Fran
If you want food you'd find at home but don't feel like cookin it, enter Coffee Table. The salads and sandos are good. The chili is great. Breakfast on the back patio is popular with the locals -- if you go, try the Green Burrito or the oatmeal for something a bit healthier. Also has good dessert options including cakes and pies. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner and you should love any and all three.
Perfect set up for breakfast and lunch

My husband and I walk to the Coffee Table quite often and always have a nice experience. The menu has a huge variety of options and the prices are right. The decor is neat; they always have paintings up for sale from, I assume, local artists. Have yet to try any of the desserts that sit behind a window of the counter but they look amazing.
- Pros: Food is great
- Cons: Can be difficult to find a seat in the house

Although I have lived in Silver Lake forever, I recently went to the Coffee Table after I had gone to the Coffee Table in Eagle Rock. I have not been disappointed and the breakfast is always consistently good and the coffee is excellent. It's a great place to read (I always take a book) I appreciate the fact that cell phone usage in the restaurant is banned and my wireless laptop works just fine - no need to use someone else's electricity!
- Pros: No cell phone use
worst place to study/ do work
by drstardust
This place is the worst coffee shop to do work or study. One of the mean waiters kicked me out because I wanted to plug in my laptop!!! Definitely NOT student-friendly!!!
- Pros: Nice artwork
- Cons: waiters are mean, not student-friendly
Terrible coffee shop (No place to plug your laptop in)
by rakshablue
I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on LA's coffee shops; I'm one of the hordes of people who likes to plunk down with a steaming cup of coffee and get some work done on my laptop. This particular activity is such a commonplace sight in LA's coffeeshops, perhaps more than any other city in the world, what with everyone working on that script or pilot show. It is very much a part of the culture of our city. That being said, the Coffee Table is the absolute WORST place to get some work done. Where to begin? To start with, this place has visible a/c outlets next to every table in there, but get this, NONE of them work. In fact, there are only two places you can plug your computer in, one at a very inconvenient bar-type area near the cash register where you get to sit on a bar stool of all things while people form a never-ending line behind you, and the other near the bathroom but where they won't allow you to plug in anyway because the wire lies along the floor. Apparently these two outlets that work are "charging stations" where you leave your computer while it charges and come back to get it when you're done...doing something else with your time. One word: dumb.
It doesn't end there. The seats are uncomfortable, and the coffee often lukewarm.
I'm sorry, but until this place wakes up and really gets with the times, it is NOT recommended by any means.
- Cons: (No place to charge computer, lukewarm coffee, unfriendly staff)
mediocre at best
by blueblue1
The food is mediocre and the decor is horrible. I live within walking distance would rather drive farther for better food and atmosphere. I think people must go there for convenience. Coffee table folks...PLEASE get more creative and expand your menu or at least take your current staples to the next level..for example the breakfast burrito...boring. We all want to supprt local restaurants, but give us something a bit more interesting..you could take cues from many other GREAT Silverlake eateries...Thanks.
Silver Lake artists, industry types and families crowd in for coffee, conversation and cheap, homemade eats.

In Short
Local art hangs on the earth-toned walls and fashionably disheveled patrons read hardcovers at tables adorned with tile mosaic tables. Dinner entrees like salmon and pork chops are available, but breakfast and lunch dominate, and seem more appropriate for the atmosphere. Omelettes are loaded with pico de gallo, avocado, cheese and turkey sausage and oatmeal is topped with apples, cranberries and walnuts. Other popular orders include banana pancakes, focaccia sandwiches and salads, from Asian chicken to beet-and-goat cheese.
Eagle Rock location is better

I met a friend for Sunday brunch at the Silver Lake location. I arrived at 10:45am--no lines--plenty o' tables open. Great..! Within 10 minutes, about 20 or so people arrived and the line to order just got ridiculously backed up. I waited about 15 minutes just to order at the counter (there's no wait staff)--then another 20 minutes for my order to be delivered to my table. We sat in the rear patio which I didn't find to be all that impressive -- all the tables and chairs seemed to need a good wiping down. One plus is my oatmeal was really tasty. I won't go back to this location -- I prefer Eagle Rock -- where there's more space, light, parking, and shorter lines.
- Pros: big breakfast menu
- Cons: dingy furnishings, interior, and rear patio -- difficult parking on Rowena
Thank You

The power went out in most the city the other day right around lunch time. I went into this place and they were still serving food. I walked up to order and realized that I had no cash, just a credit card, and the thought hit me that I was about to go hungry for the day. They were so cool, they still took my order and told me I could pay them later. If more people had this sort of attitude in the world, it would be a much better place. (Yes, I did go back later and paid for the food). Many thanks.
