I love Ernie Jr's Taco House! I have been going there since my mom was pregnant with me (I am 20 now) and she has been going there for the same amount of time. My grandfather started going when he was in high school which was over 50 years ago! They have the best enchiladas, chips, guacamole, rice.. everything! It is great for children and large groups and it is affordable too. They are always very nice and polite. I would recommend going there to anyone! I now live 2 hours away and still drive there for dinner on occasion and when I am in LA I have to stop in!

It's sad to see this place go down hill. The food is getting worse, Chicken is like frozen then recooked. beans are good. Service is very bad. Decor is old & needs to be freshened up.
Pros: big parking lot
Cons: don't need it

It's Unfortunate that this place has really bad food. Boring menu. waitstaff is nice, But my husband didn't touch his microwave chicken enchilada and the waiter didn't ask him if the meal was ok. Didn't bother complaining because it seems like the place that doesn't care if you like the food or not. Spanish rice was tastless, beans tasted like lard, oily chesse, tastless enchilada sauce, the chicken in our enchiladas was really really bad. maybe too old to serve. The table salsa was not bad... that's pretty much the only thing. I do not recommend this place.
Pros: Cheap prices, if you like poor quaility
Cons: again, Cheap prices, if you like poor quaility

Ernie Jr.'s has been an Eagle Rock staple restaurant for decades. Unfortunately, although local palates and neighboring restaurants have advanced in their tastes, Ernie Jr.'s remains in 1980. The typical "combo plate" seen in Mexican restaurants 20 years ago is still the what you'll find here at Ernie's. Don't expect to find experimental mole sauces or innovative use of fresh and local ingredients. This is the place where you can get two cheese enchiladas, beans and rice. That's pretty much it. It's run of the mill. The decor probably hasn't changed in those same 20 years. I wouldn't recommend it...especially when I could get better food at any of the local "take out" places.

Went there on a recommendation, but I think I'll have to take my friend out to Los Gringos Locos. Ernie Jr's Verde Burro was not spicy in the slightest, the chicken on the tostada was cold and tasteless with bits of fat on it. Guacamole was covered in cheese masking whatever taste it may have had. As well, it was liquidy and I was curious where the avocado had gone. Food was OK, price was average, overall OK, but I went on a recommendation expecting a lot more. Margarita had plenty of tequila but wasn't real lime juice and was served in a cup.
Pros: Easy Parking
Cons: Bland Food

I'm another veteran Ernie's diner. I have been going since I was 10 (35 years). You can't go wrong with anything, but special treats are the chicken enchilada, and the carnitas burrito served colorado style (sauce and cheese on top). Guacamole is excellent, although skimpy portion. The chips are the best I've ever had, and I eat mexican food 5 times a week. Watch out for the margaritas. They are notoriously inconsistent. Sometimes great, sometimes so bad you can't believe it. Have a couple at home, then go to Ernie's for the food.
Pros: chicken enchiladas, guacamole flavor, plentiful parking

The only thing I have to complain about Ernie Jr's is that the one in Pasadena no longer exists. I thought the food in LA was going to be subpar, but to my surprise, it was just as good. My favorite waiter has retired, but the service is excellent and the ambiance still makes me feel comfortable. My favorite thing to eat is the cheese enchilada w/ all rice, no beans. I've been eating there since I can remember. My father is good friends with Ernie himself. As a matter of fact, the last time my dad took us to dinner there, Ernie was asking how I was doing and how things were going with me in Vegas. Everytime I go, I always feel at home. When I go back to Vegas, I get foodsick for Ernie Jr's! I rate them an A+++++++! :)
Pros: Gr8 food!, Inexpensive

I'm 42 and have been going to this restaurant since it was located under what is now the 2 freeway (over 35 years ago). Simply put, it's the best mexican food around. Nothing fancy. No fixation on black beans or cilantro or sweet corn or enchiladas with colored tortillas or strange sauces. Just basic, great mexican food. The refried beans are outstanding -- my mouth waters just thinking about it. All the entrees are great, and have been made the same way the last 35 years. I strongly dislike the big chains and the trendy mexican places. I'll stick with Ernie Jr.'s.

Ernie's doesn't get an attitude if you and yours arrive 8 minutes before closing. Instead of rolling their eyeballs, they serve up hot little chips and get the food to your mouth fast, and not in that "please inhale your beans and leave so we can finally lock up" way. Never disappointing, but beware the wet, albino chicken salad.
Pros: friendly servers, drinks
Cons: chicken issues
