I walked by this restaurant so many times wanting to visit. I had huge expectations considering the gorgeous atmosphere. I enjoyed my meal here so much and would recommend it for an expensive night out!

Had to wait a bit though we had a reservation. Luckily it wasn't raining outside. The waiting area was packed with a large party also waiting for their table. The food tasted good. Location is easy to get to.We all ended up tasting/sharing and most of the food was pretty good. The Striped Bass Filet was not great. I was extremely disappointed in the overcooked, tasteless and my friend was really unhappy with the tiny piece of yucky duck. I thought the desserts were just okay, not great. The service was fine, but because the food ranged from "fantabulous" to "meh" I can only give this place three stars. I want consistently fabulous food. Fab-food, if you will. If you go, get the coq au vin and be sure to have a reservation.

best jazz atmosphere in the city and better than down town. we went there for our wedding anniversaries and it was fantastic and so romantic the manager came to congratulate us after hearing it was our 1st anniversary and made sure we had a good time, he also recommend a nice bottle of wine, think it was a margaux and then seat down with us to speak a little French with us. will definitely go back to test more of there specialties and wine. great to go for celebration!!!

We expected half a dozen, we ended up with 20. But the restaurant was nice enough to accommodate us all, by shifting furniture, and even giving us a discount for so many people. The food was good, if unremarkable. The service was great, and the live jazz music was terrific. Perfect for eating, moving from background to foreground with ease. Just what you'd want for a night with friends. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
Pros: great music, accommodating staff, friendly atmosphere
Cons: somewhat pricey

The only thing you will get is sick. They brush the brochette with artificial liquid smoke. I had the BBQ swordfish brochette and it tasted like a sterno can. My wife got sick from a scallops special. I'm surprised this place is still standing.

My friends recommended me this restaurant for the ambience and I went with my girlfriend and the experience was even better than expected. From the friendly hostess when we arrived to waiter how was so attentive and professional. The menu was over whelming with all the choices, the waiters was helpful and knowledgeable. After following his advise every dish was special but one that I will remember this all my life is the fantastic presentation that I have never seen of the brochette. Will definitely go back with friends and family. This is place became one of my fav.

I was literally inspired to join Citysearch this evening to recount just how outrageously bad my experience was at Brasserie Julien. Having been to, and enjoyed, Brasserie Julien several years ago when I lived on the upper east side, I recommended the restaurant for a dinner with my parents and my girlfriend. It was the worst dinner in NYC that any of us could remember. I found myself apologizing profusely by the end of the evening, both because of the poor food and total cluelessness of the waitstaff. At the beginning of the meal, my girlfriend asked for a "light red" wine, to which the waitress responded "do you mean, like, light in color?" As for appetizers, the fish stew was odorous, inedible, and appeared to be filled with last night's leftovers. The french onion soup was tasteless. As for main courses, my "chicken confit" had no "confit" whatsoever, and was a plain-old breast. My father's steak was chewy and tough. My mothers' crab cakes came cold -- when the waitress was asked to heat them up, she did not so much as offer an apology. In any event, they were fishy. Come dessert, the waiter (who had now taken over because our previous waitress was busy setting tables and not paying attention) could not explain which flavors were the sorbet, and which were the gelato. It is impossible to think that Brasserie Julien could be this bad all the time -- maybe this was the Sunday night b-team. Maybe this place has gone way down hill in the last two years. Either way, truely, shockingly, outrageously bad. I am humiliated to have recommended this restaurant -- it will not happen again.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Everything Else

If it's one of those evenings when you just want to have the perfect dinner be it romantic or casual this is the place for you. Very cozy feel about this place, and food seemed to be better and better each time I ate here. Foie gras was just perfect last time, also the tuna tartar. Highly recommended. Every time Im contemplating where I should have dinner I manage ending up at this place and always leave satisfied.
Pros: Yummy food.
Cons: Service a little slow but if you are on a date you don't notice it.
