A sad slide for a once proud store

This store just minutes from the best (Amoeba) was at one time the epicenter for DJ 12's and import LP's but times have definitely changed. The owner is OFTEN very late to open the place up and OFTEN closes up shop at the most bizarre times of day (like in the middle of said day). Vinyl is not current but prices are still as high as they were when they arrived at the shop years ago. Organization is poor to put it nicely; don't bother, simply roll to Amoeba for THE record store, period.

I took the red line all the way to Hollywood to this record store - I got there at 12pm, when they supposedly open and waited until 1pm and still no-one showed up.
So CALL before you go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once a punk/Goth music haven, this legendary vinyl dealer has firmly embraced the techno dance age.

In Short
The Melrose branch of this venerable vinyl dealer was ground zero for the punk, Goth and industrial scenes back in the day. You can still find Bauhaus and Subhumans shirts and LPs here, but many of the bins are filled with permutations on dance music. UK hard house, NRG, trance, techno and electronica are all well represented. The staff is knowledgeable and not too snotty. Ask away, as long as you're looking for something fairly obscure.
Yeah right!

I went to this so called "hip" record shop and left disappointed. They didn't carry any music by my favorite band CARCASS!! Whats up with that!? The clerk looked at me like I was some kinda weirdo when I asked about them. He even laughed at me. What a jerk!! I think he's the stinkin weirdo if you ask me. They shouldn't even call themselves a record store. I'm calling B.S. on that action.
- Pros: None
- Cons: No Carcass
Fulfilling your music fetish

Vinyl Fetish has been around for as long as I have been listening to music (ok, maybe not that long) and is quite easily a Hollywood landmark for music fans. The staff if both friendly and very knowledgeable. Catering to just about every underground style of music from Gothic, New Wave, Ethereal, Darkwave, Industrial, Punk, Mod, Ska, they even have a really good Synthpop section. Definitely a record store that kept to it's roots while adapting to the present. If you're into music that resides outside the mainstream and you can't find it here, then you're most likely out of luck.
