Chicken Lasagna

by Michael Fran at Citysearch

They deliver. They're open late night. And they oven bake tomatoes on top of their on-the-house bread. The chicken lasagna is one of my favorite lasagnas anywhere. It's massive (size and flavor). The sangria is great and they have a great list of imported beers. Only con can be the wait but that should be indicative of what you're in line for.

Not real Brazilian food

by nitejrny282 at Citysearch

Being a Brazilian, I feel obligated to inform everyone that this is not Brazilian food. It's not horrible food. Just nothing resembling Brazilian cuisine. If you want authentic Brazilian (which is some of the best food in the world) I recommend "Pampas Grill" in the farmer's market/The Grove on 3rd and Fairfax

  • Pros: Convenient
  • Cons: Faux Brazilian food

One of my favorite local spots

by cmccaugh at Citysearch

Bossa Nova is around the corner from my house, and so I've eaten there or gotten takeout a number of times. I almost always end up getting something from the Brazilian grill or sandwich sections of the menu. (The latter is more popular with me when I'm ordering take-out.) My wife seems to always get the pasta. We've never been disappointed with our food, not even when we order take-out. I'm sure it helps that we order take-out, not delivery, and pick it up right when we were told it would be ready by.

The downside is that it can feel a little loud & bustling, but that's not a big deal because it's not like we've ever had to wait for table. Then again, I don't remember us ever eating there on a Friday or Saturday night. In fact, the food seems to go hand-in-hand with the atmosphere with its bold flavors and festive feel: I kind of feel like I'm eating my favorite backyard barbeque cooked by my Brazilian uncle (who doesn't actually exist).

In the bottom line, I think there's a very good match between the food you're served and the price you pay. It's nice to find a tasty spot in Hollywood that's not about the hype.

  • Pros: Flavorful meats, tasty sandwiches
  • Cons: Noisy and bustling

Interesting Late Nights

by Devolution at Citysearch

Came here at 130am one night after drinking with friends. The food was good, the service was good and the experience was overall... GOOD.

My ONLY issue was that there were lots of stripper / pr0stitute looking girls there because it is right accross the street from a strip club. I'm not a prude and I don't mind good looking women to look at when I eat, but these women were dressed in skimpy little wh0re dresses and skirts which was somewhat distracting. There were also several thuggish looking black guys that come by from the strip club. I am sure it's different at lunch / dinner time, but this is what you will find late night at Bossa Nova.

  • Pros: good brazilian food
  • Cons: late night call girls and pimps

Disgusting! Raw Chicken!

by Punchie77 at Citysearch

A coworker told me this place was great, so we thoought we'd give it a try. It was packed, which I take as a good sign, so we accepted the only empty table. Our waitress was with us shortly, and she was very nice and informative, recommending 2 chicken dishes that she said are popular, so we ordered them. It was about 35 minutes until our food arrived, we thought that was a pretty long time, but hoped it would be worth it. This is when our positive thoughts came to a screeching halt, as my boyfriend cut into his chicken and discovered it was TOTALLY RAW on the inside. Not just a tiny bit pink, I mean it was NOT COOKED AT ALL. Seriously RAW. I immeidiatly waved to our server, I am never one to make a scene anywhere, so I quietly told her what we had been served, said we had no interest in eating here any longer and asked if we could pay for our drinks and leave. She agreed right away and took the dish of raw poultry away and sent over a manager. The manager was nice and very apologetic, offered to bring us any thing else at no charge. I explained that I had no faith whatsoever in whoever was cooking, and that they had no doubt cross-contaminated other areas of the kitchen with raw chicken juice, so thanks but no thanks. Then, strangely, she shrugged and said, "Well, these things happen!" WTF?!? So I said, "You know, you can put someone in the hospital feeding them raw chicken." She looked very serious then and said yes, i know. I will NEVER eat anywhere that makes you wait 35 minutes for raw chicken. Thought they were nice about it until she implied raw chicken is something that just 'happens'. The entire kitchen staff should be forced to take safe food handling course. Horrifying!!!

  • Pros: nice staff
  • Cons: raw chicken!!!

Dont place a order for delivery

by Dreel at Citysearch

I called at 7pm and placed an order for delivery and was told it would take a hour. After a hour and a half, I called back and the guy tried to insult my intelligence and say that it hadn't been a hour. After two hours passed I called back and was told that they called 4 times and left a message. I didn't have one call from anyone or did anyone leave a message. Further to not take responsibility for their mistake, he said I was out of the area. Out of the area?why wouldn't you tell me that when I ordered. I was a loyal customer to this place, but I will not patronize this place again.
