Stand-by going out for dinner place

by jericsmall at Citysearch

The Gaucho Grill on Sunset is pretty average. But it's reliable so I often end up going with a friend when neither of us can decide on something better. Parking is via forced valet due to the small parking lot, making for a generally quickly-seated situation. The host is always friendly. And the tables reasonably spaced for privacy.

  • Pros: Good value

Not great, not great service

by fill_up at Citysearch

For such a promising menu, I gotta say, it's just a big disappointment. The service is spotty-at-best, and the food is just greasy, warmed-over "favorites" from south of the equator.

Bland but pleasant

by lagirlie323 at Citysearch

I went to the location on Sunset Blvd. Food was bland but it was good enough. I think it's because in general Argentine food is bland to begin with. Service was good and you get HUGE portions. It's good value for the price but the food is average. We were seated right away as we went around 630pm. Not the most exciting ambiance but overall, it was an okay dining experience.

  • Pros: good service
  • Cons: bland food

Trendy Argentinean chain specializes in grilled steak, fried steak and steak-and-cheese sandwiches.

In Short
Green plants and a high ceiling lend a garden ambience to the contemporary dining room; dim lighting encourages romance. But the restaurant's main draw is meat, massive steaks served with piles of crispy fries and a variety of sauces. Vegetarians can opt for the Provoleta appetizer, a wedge of cheese melted in a mini-skillet and topped with fresh salsa. There are also several South American-inspired chicken and fish entrees, and an ambitious cocktail menu.

Yum!

by mkupgirl at Citysearch

We ate here last week (8/14) and the service was excellent, friendly waiter. Ordered Fish with potatoes..good price (under 10.00) and my husband ordered chicken. Very authentic and delicious; highly recommend especially for the value. After spending $$ elsewhere, we finally tried this place and were plesantly surprised. Don't let the strip mall fool you! It's yummy! Park at the center on the corner and walk over.

  • Pros: food, service
  • Cons: limited parking

Don't waste your money!

by whats4dinner at Citysearch

If overpriced, mediocre food and absent-minded service is what you're looking for, then Gaucho Grill fits the bill. If not, don't waste your time or money here.

A much-too-spicy garlic, basil and olive oil condiment is served with a truly boring french bread that is likely bought in garbage bag-sized quantities at a warehouse store somewhere.

My dining partner and I ordered two different chicken dishes which were equally flavorless. My chicken breasts were delivered to the table still clothed in their greasy skins despite my explicit request to get them skinless. (The menu clearly states that you can order your chicken skinless.)

The service was shoddy. Not only were we repeatedly bumped into by the waiters as they passed by, but the hostess who refilled our drinks continually asked, "Is that water?"

Gaucho Grill has definitely earned a position on my list of restaurants to avoid.

  • Cons: forced valet parking, noisy, overpriced
