Whiskey and Apple Pie

by Michael Fran

Been one of my favorite bars in Los Angeles for the last 7 years. The food is great and the drinks are terrific and you can come for either reason or both. My favorites -- the chicken salad with fried goat cheese, the chicken with sauteed spinach and linguine carbonara. To drink -- it's always a John Bonham: shot of Jack and a Bud. The music is always good and the crowd is great. Watch out for Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon from time to time. But the secret of the whole experience is getting the Applie Pie. It's baked in a cast-iron skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream.

Hipster cool atmosphere AND good eats!

by wendyrules

Dark and ambient... with a rock-n-roll hipster feel. Good eats with the Chopped Salad being my favorite. I highly recommend it. DELICIOUS. Great place to enjoy a cocktail with a friend or two and see or be seen.

Very, very crowded.

by marden

After drinks at the Formosa across the street, my friends and I decided to check this place out. We walked in, and there was literally, no place to sit. All the booths and every single barstool were taken. We walked to the ladies room, only to find a somewhat hilarious, somewhat disturbing array of obscene photos covering every inch of the walls and ceiling. Didn't even bother waiting for a place to sit. We just left.

  • Pros: None that I can think of.
  • Cons: Way too crowded, waste of time.

A classic...

by markhunter

One of my favorite bars. Went there tonight before heading down the block. Been coming here for 10 years and I still love it. Great crowd and great service. And the food is wonderful.

  • Pros: Fun
  • Cons: SMoke room.

Unprofessional, Poorly Designed and Rude Service

by veritasinhollywood

I have to agree with a previous post here. This place was probably cool ten years ago, but now it's manager (Greg) and most of the bartenders tend to be very rude, but most annoying was their complete lack of service. Because of the poor design, you can stand at the bar forever without them even bothering to look your direction. The impression they've left most people I've been there with is that they don't care whether they get your business or not.

I would also strongly recommend against putting down a tab. They gave my credit card to someone else who closed out a tab on it for three times the amount I spent. Their answer was simply it happens all the time and there was nothing they could do. Very rude about it.

Lastly, don't go on the weekends unless you want to spend twenty minutes waiting for the bathroom while men to finish "powdering their noses".

Their food is mediocre.

This city is full of good bars, but this certainly isn't one of them.

  • Pros: NA
  • Cons: If there's a fire, you'll burn to death, oh and horrible service, parking, design, etc.

Great food and atmosphere

by crackmac

We love the pizza and the chopped salad. Leather booths, a little dark, interesting photos of ancient hipsters on the wall and great music add up to great atmosphere.

Excellent service leads to a very happy birthday

by mel2549

After a last minute cancellation at another restaurant, my birthday party (25 people) moved to Jones. I was initially apprehensive at the change of plans, but the staff immediately put me at ease. They couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. We were given a few tables and overflow space at the bar, and the bartenders took exceptional care of us from beginning to end. The drinks were strong and the food delicious. All night long my friends raved about how great things were and called the cancellation a "happy accident." In addition to the food/drink, this place has great lighting (dark and cozy) cool decor, laid-back people and a respectable jukebox. I would definitely recommend this place for a party or even an intimate dinner.

  • Pros: Ambience, service
  • Cons: Can get a little crowded

Good food and strong drinks!

by boozy_moonbutt

Excellent pizza, although I dealy miss the shrimp, leek, and goat cheese one they took off the menu a while back. The margherita, however, is to die for. The entrees are pretty solid all around, but it's just a cool hangout, and although the bartenders sometimes have a crappy attitude, at least the drinks are strong and the music loud.

  • Pros: Great pizza, strong drinks, cool vibe
  • Cons: Service sometimes lacks, especially at the bar
