30 years of great food and still going strong
by houstondinerguy
I have been a patron of the Moun of Tunis for 30 years. I am a chef, so when I go out to eat my expectations are very high. The Moun of Tunis consistently dazzles me with their amazing food and the panache with which they present the fare. I especially love the bastilla and the lemon chicken, both dishes which I have tried to replicate over the years with mixed results. Expect to spend a few hours dining-you don't go to the Moun of Tunis to eat, you dine, lose your tie, loosen your belt, and allow yourself to be seduced by the magic of this wonderful restaurant. I also highly recommend this site for a romantic date. The atmosphere is very conducive to cuddling and sharing food.
- Pros: charming, great food, great service
- Cons: not good for kids, republicans, or people in a hurry
The food is not that good.

I think the decoration of the place is very nice but when it comes to the food I'm not impressed at all.
- Pros: decoration
- Cons: food
Delicious food!!!
by shahnananaz
My husband took me to this place this past weekend and we had a wonderful time! The food was delicious! We started with hummus and pita, followed with a tatsy lentil soup, cold salad with dipping bread and shrimp skewers, followed by the main course (we chose the steamed salmon in a cumin sauce) and finally ending with a delicious almond cake and mint tea. The belly dancing was brief but enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the comfortable couches we were sitting on, as well as eating with my hands. For all the food we ate, the price was just right and we definitely plan on going again!
- Pros: FOOD!!!, service, comfort, ambience, friendly staff, belly dancing
- Cons: short lived belly dancing
Cozy!!

**************** Most Satisfying North African Cuisine in Los Angeles!! If you like Exotic Foods, You will Enjoy Moun of Tunis!! *******************
Great place for group gatherings! Tons of food, relaxed tucked-away place on Sunset.
by willis_sfc
Moun of Tunis was really great! Go here with groups, big groups! The food menu is fixed, but it's absolutely delicious. I would recommend the chicken over the lamb. The lamb was cooked in a wet style, which is difficult to eat with just your hands. Get dirty, bring bills for the belly dancer, and have fun.
- Pros: Group accomodations, Parking in the rear, Food
- Cons: Price
Great Find

We were very please with this fun-filled restaurant. We were served promptly and everyone was very friendly. If you don't mind eating with your hands... in a very relaxed environment, you'll love this place. I highly recommend you check this it out.
- Pros: Lots of Fun, Great Service
Truly an experience!
by chrisnrich
We always enjoy the experience here. The rosewater hand-washing, dim but attractive rooms, and communal dining are a big hit.
The food is definitely the best part. As non-experts on Moroccan/Tunisian cuisine, we find the flavors novel and usually amazing. The brik, exotic-tasting salads (especially the rose-flavored carrots), hummus, and even their mint tea are all great. The meat dishes are exemplary, including honey lamb, and our favorite, the B'stilla (ground chicken-filled pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar). B'stilla my heart! There is definitely lots of food served with any of the dinners, so you should definitely arrive hungry.
Some downsides are that some servers aren't very good, you may end up sitting close to annoying diners, and the vegetarian meal is expensive considering that meals containing several meats are only $4 more. Also, the belly-dancing can be a bit hokey, but usually adds to the overall mood.
- Pros: food, parking, ambiance
Exotic surroundings accent this cozy spot's satisfying North African cuisine.

In Short
Intimate and friendly, the exotic decor at Moun of Tunis feels homey rather than theatrical. Dining rooms glow with subdued lantern light, while patrons lounge on pillows and watch the glittering belly dancer occasionally spin by. Dishes include fried brik (Tunisian pastry stuffed with spiced vegetables and poached egg), lemon chicken and chicken pie with powdered sugar. Vegetarian meals are also available. For desserts, there are fresh pastries, baklava and mint tea offered.
Unfortunately disappointing
by latinvalleygirl
Although the food was good and service was great (wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly) I have to amit I was disappointed by the atmosphere. It seemed pretty quiet for a Friday night. I was expecting to see a lot more belly dancing. We saw one dancer who danced for about 10-15min dring the 3 hours we were there.
- Pros: friendly staff
