FANTASTIC WEST HOLLYWOOD TREASURE
by Bonecrusher at Citysearch
Great location, great atmosphere, great service, and best of all GREAT food! I've been going to this local restaurant for years and it's never left me dissatisfied. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and my favorites have to be the bacon avocado cheeseburger, the pastrami burger, and their quesadillas (Chicken or steak is fine by me!). Really though, the quesadillas consist of fresh avocado slices, fresh pico de gallo and freshly chopped chicken. Their prices can be a bit steep but for the amount of food you're getting they're well suited. Seriously though, the quesadillas are about the size of my arm (fingers to elbow) and are PACKED with all the aforementioned fresh ingredients stated above. Really, just writing about it right now is making my mouth salivate. If you're in the area and you haven't tried this fantastic West Hollywood treasure yet, I implore you to go. It's a-must-eat!
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
It's grown on me

I've warmed up to this place considerably. I used to think it was overpriced, but soon realized that if you order the right thing, the food can be quite good. It is expensive, and if you're not careful you could spend more than $10 for glorified fast food, but many of the dishes are so large that you can easily split between two people and walk away full. Case in point, the Chicken Quesadilla costs around $8, but it is pizza-sized, and crammed full of at least a pound of chicken, fresh avocado, pico de gallo, and cheese. To buy those ingredients alone would cost you more than $12 in the supermarket. It's delicious, one of my favorite items, and most people can barely eat half of one, so split it! The onion rings and fried zucchini are homemade, crisp, delicious, and also splittable between two people. Other hits on the menu are any of the burgers (usually run about 1/4 pound) , french fries, chocolate shake, club sandwich, and bean and cheese burrito. However, Astro Burger has what I consider to be the BEST BREAKFAST you can get at a fast food restaurant. The breakfast burrito is legendary... at least a pound and a half of bacon, cheese, potatoes, eggs, and salsa. The egg muffin sandwiches are also stellar. The menu is quite large, and some items do suffer as a result. I was pretty unhappy with the pastrami sandwich (best in town my a ss) which was greasy, fatty, and rubbery. I was also disappointed by the fried chicken dinner (scrawny chicken pieces with too much breading), the gyro (clearly factory produced and reheated in the restaurant), and the grilled chicken sandwich (dry, dry, dry).
- Pros: BREAKFAST BURRITO, chicken quesadilla, onions rings, fried zuchinni, open late
- Cons: Can be expensive if not careful or splitting dishes. Gyro, pastrami, grilled chicken.

In Short
The neon Astro sign, clean chrome-and-plastic interior and handwritten wall menu conjure up images of Archie comics gone Hollywood. A vegetarian's fast-food haven, the menu offers an incredible array of meatless meals, from mock chicken-and-beef fajitas to saucy faux-riblets. And meat eaters can dress up their patties any way imaginable, from bacon- and cheese-smothered to Hawaiian-style, with mounds of grilled onions, pineapple and teriyaki. As a side, the crispy, salty steak fries go well with everything.
Not a half bad burger place

The venue, which looks like a mid-20th century diner, actually serves decent juicy burgers and succulent fries. There?s salads and chicken sandwiches on the menu for those looking for slightly lighter fare, but either way, come hungry. The food at this place will fill you up good!

Astro Burger is, hands down, the best fast food restaurant I have ever been to. I like the Melrose and Gower location better than the Santa Monica one, though: it's less crowded, it's closer to my house, and they have a much bigger variety of vegetarian and Greek items. Take note that they only accept cash, but there is an ATM on the premises. And it's not a gourmet restaurant: it IS fast food. However, there are no combo meals and no dollar menu, so you'll likely pay a bit more than at your average burger drive-thru (around $10 per person for a burger, side and drink). Unlike In-n-Out, which does one thing well, and one thing only, Astroburger has just about anything you could ask for. As a vegetarian, my favorite item is the Gardenburger Delux, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and avocado, which is always fresh and ripe. Yes, they have soy cheese and mayo if you want it! The Gardenburger Greek, Gardenburger Santa Fe, veggie chicken fajita, and veggie ham and cheese are also amazing. The even have veggie chili cheese fries, which are out of this world! And don't even get me started on the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). They're some of the best I've had, period. Try this place! You won't be disappointed.
- Pros: huge selection of vegetarian and greek items, stuffed grape leaves
- Cons: cash only, and they could use some honey mustard. :-)
GREAT FOOD, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

LISTEN TO A REGULAR, not single time visitors. I have been to Astro at all times of the day, and the food is consistently good. I have seen a vast variety of people, from celebrities to clubgoers to families...it is one of the most inviting places I have ever been to. But the crowd isn't what attracts me to Astro, the food is. Astro has some of the best quality fast food I have ever tasted. Their burgers and steak quesadillas (HUGE!) are amazing, their homemade ranch is to die for and it compliments their already GREAT onion rings and fried zucchini perfectly. My favorite item for years has been a close tie between the BACON AVOCADO CHEESEBURGER and the PASTRAMI BURGER. I often go with my vegeterian girlfriend and some of her vegetarian friends. Apparantly they're in love with the Gardenburgers almost as much as I am with their burgers. So if you're ever on Santa Monica blvd, make sure to stop by this grubbers paradise.
- Pros: Something for everyone; THEIR FOOD!!!
- Cons: Parking can be difficult during peak hours
AVOID any night

Skip this restaurant. We went there tonight and i ordered a cheeseburger with just ketchup and onions, my husband had hot dogs with Mustard. We got the food to go as we live around the corner from here. For starter i watched the cooks pick up the hot dogs off the grill with just his hands-no gloves or tongs. The cheeseburger had a minimum of ONE CUP of ketchup on it on each side. Clearly a joke taking place between cooks at this dive. The hot dogs were more than smothered in at least a cup of mustard each dog. Dont trust the cooks here, God knows what else they did with our food. I wasnt in on the joke and they figured we would be gone home with our food anyway, not be sitting at the restaurant so we would not see what they had done to our food. I wish i could put up a picture of what they did here. Then on our way out the guy at the register insisted we take a handful of ketchup- so he too was in on the game. Cook at home or watch everything that goes on behind the counter. Not worth your time.
- Pros: close by
- Cons: the food is bad
