Best delivery in town
by marpwesh at Citysearch
I have been blissfully ordering from this place for 12 years easily. Let me also say I am a total food snob who has eaten Indian food everywhere from London, Amsterdam, Brussels to France. I think this place is one of the best I have ever had. In fact it is always my comfort go to place when I return home. Yes, the Vindaloo will make your nose run but if you pair it with a Khurma or a Coconut dish it is fantastic. Although not the best ambiance in the world, I have converted numerous non Indian lovers with the food served here. I simply dont get the bad reviews? I have yet to have a bad or even unsatisfying meal there. I say, fantastic!!!
- Pros: Fantastic food
Worth a try

Everyone in my party loved the food (except for the fried butterfly shrimp). The service was excellent. A good time was had by all. We all walked away quite satisfied and full to the brim. We'd definitely go back.

I am puzzled by the bad reviews, especially regarding service. The place is open late and never crowded; my water glass was filled constantly. I have driven miles to come to Star of India just to eat mainly because there is no "knuckle meat", as I call it... weird bony inedible pieces of meat. The chicken is tender, the rice and naan are fluffy. And you even get a $15 off coupon always. The atmosphere is not hip or special, but it is clean and classy for a hole in the wall. If you want atmosphere (and a slightly larger tab) try Electric Lotus, but certainly Star of India is recommended.
- Pros: Best food, never a wait, open late, full water glasses, 15% off coupon.
- Cons: ?
Bad, bad, bad

This place has bad food, I informed the waiter that the Vegetables didnt taste right and had a stale smell. Almost sour smelling and I know my veges, I order Vege Korma at other restaurants all the time and this smell was rather unique. The waiter smelled it at the table, somewhat embarassing, and said that he was certain that it smelled fresh. To save myself of further embarrassment I just paid and left a note for the manager with my ph#. It has been over a month, no calls yet.
- Pros: ?
- Cons: Stale food, bad service, poor management

WORST SERVICE
by LalithM at Citysearch
"Indians will be treated like an insect..." may be this quote suits to this restaurant perfectly. I went to LA for a trip Last week, unfortunately Google resulted this restaurant as search result, People work here don't listen to order fully. yes of course they have a rocket to build in NASA.. An American couple came, without even taking the order from us the guy left and serving water to them and asking "How are u doing today?" and all.. After waiting for 10 mins, i couldn't resist myself from asking for water.. No minimum decency for Indians of course. I hate 45 mins of my time while sitting in this Restaurant. I have been to numerous Restaurant in US so far, This is the WORST Restaurant among all.
- Pros: Is there any??
- Cons: Everyting
My Tuesday Night ritual
by mccallbenn at Citysearch
I have Indian food delivered every Tuesday night, from Star of India. I get the same thing: Shrimp Tandoori Masala, Veggie Samosas with Mango Chutney, 4 pieces of Naan and their "fried Rice" (basmati rice with raisins, almonds, peas, etc) Every Tuesday, I thank God for this restaurant. Seriously... the Tandoor Masala is by far the most scrumptious dish I've ever eaten. (My pal says the chicken Tandoori Masala is the best SHE'S had too.) So sweet and savory. It's Weds morning now, and I am craving the leftovers in my fridge, as I type this review.
- Pros: Tandoor Masala sauce, Free delivery, 15% Off for Citysearchers!
- Cons: Melrose parking
BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER
by davidberry at Citysearch
I have eaten at every single indian food restaurant you can possibly name... Bombay, other star of Indias, by the way, this is not the same as other "star of indias" they don't compare to this one...
This is by far the best ever, its inexpensive, friendly, and their food is the best EVER! The Chicken Tikka Marsala is the most amazing thing on the entire planet, its rich, creamy and tastes like CANDY literally this thing taste like CANDY! I like to order it with no spice, just a preference... The naan is simply amazing, nowhere else could serve better either...
If anything, you have to go there and try the chicken tikka marsala its the best in the world, I have taken numerous people there who say the same thing... YOU WILL BE INSTANTLY HOOKED>
I live in florida now and I had the opportunity to get in contact with them and they where so nice about handing out the recipe now that I was away, since I am a frequent customer they know me well..
I LOVE THIS PLACE!
- Pros: best indian food ever, best price, best service
- Cons: none.
Ripped off.
by bugmenot21856 at Citysearch
We arrived on a Saturday at noon and the waiter seemed to expect us to eat the buffet. After waiting about ten minutes to flag the waiter down again after seating us we asked to see menus. We ordered two chicken curry entrees and ended up waiting about twenty minutes before receiving food. When we received the food it was only the meat dish, no rice or soup though the menu specified that they should be included. We asked for naan and the waiter seemed very irritated but brought it out eventually. When we received the bill we were charged the "a la carte" rate instead of the lunch rate even though it was about 1pm by that time. So all told we paid 30 bucks for two dishes of chicken curry, no rice, no soup and were charged for the naan. We asked the waiter about the bill and were told we'd have to talk to someone in charge. We waited around to talk to someone but when no one seemed willing to come out from the back we finally left.
So if you want the buffet it seems to work ok judging by what other revieweres have said, but don't try ordering from the menu or you will be RIPPED OFF.
