Love it!
by leschnei at Citysearch
I love Dutton's Bookstore because it looks like a bookstore. It is not corporate or stylized looking. It is quaint. There are books in stacks on the floor and it may sound haphazard but it isn't. Everything is well organized. I hate the bookstores that you get lost in because they are too big, I?d rather get lost in the worlds within the books. This is why I love Dutton's.
- Pros: Ambiance, parking, selection. This store has it all!
- Cons: none
A friendly neighborhood bookstore filled with old-fashioned charm.

There's something particularly peaceful about shopping here. It may have something to do with the quiet courtyard, which is surrounded by Dutton's three separate storefronts. In the East Room, there's an inviting cafe and a gift shop with small trinkets, cards and an impressive children's section. In the West Room, you'll find fiction, from highbrow to low, stacked on shelves and on the floor. Step into the North Room and browse the non-fiction stacks or the small music section carrying classical and jazz CDs.

Wonderful independent? bookstore. Staff helpful and welll-read but did not follow me around the store. Nice Noam Chomsky section. Great place to expand your mind.
- Pros: I was able to find some obscure titles, classics and bestsellers. Order service fast and easy
- Cons: None I cn think of
A book-lover's dream
by princess_malin at Citysearch
Half the joy of purchasing a book is browsing until you find the perfect one. Dutton's in Brentwood is exactly that kind of place. Books are stacked floor to ceiling throughout the angled space. Best-sellers and classics share space with unusual gems and hard-to-find volumes. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the piles upon piles of reading material, simply ask for help. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. And if you have no idea what kind of book you want, this is a great staring point. After mere minutes you're sure to stumble across a book you've never read a thing about.
- Pros: Cozy, Selection
- Cons: Can get crowded
Maze of Books
by plafont at Citysearch
Spread between four large rooms labeled for teh points of the compass, Dutton's Brentwood has a great selection and enjoyable layout for browsing. Each room has a theme and was easy to navigate. Books stacked along the shelves in a somewhat disorderly fashion invites the visitor to actively search for a gem. New mainstream titles mix with offbeat offerings. The staff was a bit stand-offish and laconic, and the 'background' music loud enough to be distracting.
- Pros: Selection, Parking
- Cons: Staff, Atmosphere
Not a Quick Browse
by JSchwartz_Citysearch at Citysearch
When shopping for books at Dutton's, allow ample time. The labryinth of rooms in this sprawling complex will trap hungry readers with an endless selection of offbeat, obscure and top-selling authors. The kids selection is astounding, as is the collection of cookbooks. So take your time and browse freely, just be sure to keep the parking meter fed--the Brentwood parking police are tenacious ticketers.
- Pros: selection
- Cons: too many rooms
