VERY BAD SERVICE, RIPPED OFF
by axiom168

I have not been there for a year but I used to go there at least once month for about three years. Today, I was ripped off totally by the waitress who probably the owner/chef's wife.
We have 3 persons including my 3 years old daughter. We ordered 12 sticks with the waiter first. I added another stick with the waitress during the meals. The waitress asked me you order only one stick? you need two more? I told her I just want one. After she walked away, then I realized she was trying to tell me about mini 5 stick skewer per person. She expected my little 3-year old daughter order 5 sticks! Unbelievable! When we saw the bill, I was shocked they added some additional fee because we didn't meet mini order and they included 18% tip in the bill. I talked to the chef and the waitress came and she told us because you are the first-time customer! Unbelievable! First, we are long-time customers and we have been many times. Second, how can you know if someone come here first time? Third how can you charge more for the first time customer? Should you give more discount/ better for the first comer? The japanses lady is crazy. They charged $85 for two persons meals. I told my wife it doesn't worth to argue with her. She doesn't know how to do business even though the food is good. Who can stand with this kind of service and unreasonable overcharge???
This restaurant used to be full all the time and usually waiting for 1hour or more and today no need to wait and half full.
Won't go back there.
- Pros: chicken skewer
- Cons: BAD SERVICE & UNREASONABLE ASKING FOR TIP
A Rip Off service

(IT DOESN'T DESERVE ANY STAR. HOWEVER, I CAN'T PUBLISH THIS WITHOUT PUTTING ONE STAR. And if you have never been to this restaurant before, PLEASE READ!!!!) Today, my husband, my 3 years old daughter and I went to this restaurant for a dinner. The food is fine, no complaint. However, the service are terrible. When we get the check, they add 18% gratitude on our check!!! She said it is because we are new customer! But the fact is we went there so many times since they first opened! Besides, I never heard the a restaurant will change 18% for 2 adult and one 3 years old kid because she thinks we are new customer! The woman (I guess is the owner) is just horrible! So, if you never been there and have a kid, think twice before you step in! They will definitely rip you off!!!!!
Below average quality, small space, slow service

I am a huge fan of Japanese food so I wanted to try this place.
But this place was a total disappointment.
The taste was below average, the restaurant is a tiny and has uncomfortable seats.
I understand that the nature of Yakitori makes service slow but this place was extra slow.
I didn't have a good time and feel like a total waste of money.
Oh, another thing... too expensive..way way overpriced for what they serve.
I'm so glad that I live in LA where I have other Yakitori or Japanese places to go to.
- Cons: small space, too expensive, slow service

I made reservations at this restaurant on a Friday night at 9pm, I showed up at 845pm and ended up getting seated at 9:50pm. Mind you yes they were busy, but there were several people that walked in and got seated right away or within 15 minutes. I felt like this location was discriminating and choosing people with a certain race to be seated right away. Waiting that long for a table when I had made reservations there is absurd.
Poor service. Would not recommend this place!! go to other Yakitori restaurant

Got sat at the counter in front of the grill. We waited over 10 minutes to place a drink order, then when the waitress finally gets around to take our food order, she gets interrupted by another customer directly to our right to order more food (in Japanese, she was Japanese as well, I'm not Japanese). That's sorta rude, but the worst of it is that she actually started taking their order, instead of telling them to wait and made us wait. I could feel my anger beginning to boil, but tried to calm down because I really had a feenin' for skewers and I have heard so many good things. Finally, she comes back and starts taking our order, again and as we're finishing up she does a quick tally of the amount of things we've requested and tells us "you must order at least 4 skewer each" in broken English. I was incredulous, because we had ordered 6 skewers and 3 other side dishes with the full intention of ordering more food on the next go-round, along with sake and beer. I nearly choked on my own laughter and asked if she was serious, and she said she was. Nice of her to tell me this after I had gone through the entire ordering process, and it was not printed anywhere in the menu, nor was it written on the walls anywhere in plain sight (at least in a language I can read). I mentioned this very loudly and the employee's blank faces told me all I needed to know. Grabbed my wife and got the hell out of there. I've been to Japanese restaurants all over the West Coast, it's a particular hobby/passion of mine, and it's the only place I've ever been to that made me feel like I didn't belong there. Food might be great, but I'll never know because I don't take kindly to the service.
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: poor service, Extremely rude hostess/ waiter
Bad service!!!

Regardless of decent taste of food, weird location and okay service, it seems they innocently make too many mistake on the bill. I wouldn't say this if my last visit to that place was the first one. They tries to innocently made a mistake from few bucks to $20-$30. The bill they show is in Japanese thus inherently makes it hard to read also. So when you visit this place next time or first time, make sure to add up the numbers and count items before you pay.
- Pros: decent food
- Cons: bad service, don't have enough seat for a large group
Yakitori by Sylvia G. at InsiderPages

Yakitoriya is a typical yakitori restaurant. The size is pretty small so there is a wait during busy hours. The yakitori is good but the selection is pretty small (much smaller than shinsengumi). The prices are also high for the portions.

The food is great here, but it does take a while for it to be cooked, considering there is only one person cooking it. The prices can add up, and get quite pricey. I believe that the food is totally worth the price though. Their Soboro Bento and Yaki Onigiri are so delicious! I think it's their best rice dishes that they have. Their selection of skewers are very large, therefore it makes me very happy.
Parking can be a little annoying, but once you find it, totally worth it!
One of the Best Yakitori Houses
by pbyock

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers cooked using coal in open view) is one of the best I've had. I've tried other yakitori houses in Little Tokyo (downtown Los Angeles) and even Japan. Different parts of the chicken (breast, thigh, skin, wing, gizzard, heart, etc.) along with others like meatball, okra and other vegetables, are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. These skewers are not drenched in sauce to hide mediocre cuisine - this is gourmet fare, the subtle taste is absolutely satisfying. Don't forget to order a side rice dish - grilled basted rice triangles, soboro rice. Excellent selection of sake - poured to intentionally overfill your cup into the receiving saucer. Seating is limited, this place can get quite busy after 7:30pm.
