Great Place for Healthy Food
by glanger1000 at Citysearch
My wife and I are very particular about food. We have been going to and enjoying JS for many years. The couple of negative reviews on this site are erroneous, misleading and terribly unfair. We have never had anything other than a quality meal that was completely satisfying. My wife wants healthy, I want flavorful. Jack Sprat's meets both our needs at a reasonable price. And we've never, ever had any problems with the servers or management. I suggest the people writing the negative reviews have their own personal issues to deal with and used this forum to vent them. Jack Sprat's is terrific.
- Pros: flavorful, well-prepared, healthy food
- Cons: atmosphere on the cold side; could use more warmth
Just like my own kitchen
by wallaboo at Citysearch
This place is exactly where you should go if you want the same meal you might cook for yourself but just don't feel like cooking it. On the plus side, this means an emphasis on ample servings of simply cooked veggies instead of lots of meat or grease. On the other hand, the menu choices aren't any more sophisticated or better prepared than what you might cook for yourself. Also, just like your own kitchen, they seem to run out of stuff -- when we were there they were out of two key ingredients, including rice (??). The service was pleasant and efficient and the booze is half-price Tues-Thurs. Nevertheless all in all rather underwhelming for the $17 a meal we paid.
- Pros: Huge servings of veggies
- Cons: Expensive given quality
Great local place near Landmark Theaters.

Had the Salmon and it was awesome. Great service and atmosphere too. No complaints for this hidden gem.
- Pros: Food. Healthy. Atmosphere
- Cons: Small so you may have to sit right next to someone
Air Fry Clarification (From Management)
by rubecube at Citysearch
(Ny2LaFoodie) I found out that they come to them pre-frozen and fried! That's right, they are already fried.
FROM THE MANAGEMENT: The information from this reviewer is (incorrect.) Our air fries are air baked not pre fried as reviewed by ny2lafoodie. And they are Trans fat & Saturated fat free and 2/3 less fat than regular fries. As for the buns we use they are a 100% wheat buns no Trans fat and organic. There made larger to accommodate the half pound Turkey Burger & Hamburger.
Management
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: Large Portions

Get fat at Jack's
by ny2lafoodie at Citysearch
I went to Jack's excited for the air baked fries which you have to pay an extra $1.50 for.
They came and were delicious and then I asked the waitress--so what's the process of how you make these?
As they really tasted fried. She clearly told me that they come to them pre-frozen and fried! That's right, she told me that they are already fried! Then they bake them. I could not believe it. I thought they were special and she clearly told me that they were not--but better for me because most places fry them twice. Well thank you Jack Sprats--I never meant to have 600-700 calories worth of fries with my meal. I thought I was paying extra for something baked that was unusual.
They say they have less fat than regular fries but really if you go find these "baked fries" in the freezer section of the grocery store--they are not low cal or special.
Their food tastes good and touted as healthy but the "healthy buns" on the sandwhiches are so thick and big. You might as well call them 600 calorie fat free bagels.
For a place you look for to eat healthy at, it has appealing fare but it is very decieving high calorie food.
I felt so mad over those fries. You can imagine sticking to a diet all week trying to eat well and then you eat all these fries by mistake. Ughhhhh! I like to know what I am eating and they post all over their menu that their fries are their specialty. I over heard this guy at another table say how he was so excited for the fries. He's like "they are just potatoes and baked and so low calorie........ I hope he does not go their too often!
Best little find
by lafoholic at Citysearch
Jack Spratz is a small little resturant hidden on the corner of Pico and Overland. Rather than serving the typical bread at the table, they have warm pretzels and two kinds of amazing tasting mustards to dip them in (during brunch hours, they have mini muffins). The food is delicious! Although they claim to famous for their "air baked fries" I'd say they taste like your average french fries (maybe they're healthier b/c they're air baked?). Their salads and sandwiches are very good...and they come with large portions. I also love their brunch! Very good combo of egg scrambles.
- Pros: Food!
- Cons: None
Jack Sprat could eat no fat, but he won't miss it at this Westside grill.

In Short
Warm pretzels greet diners at this bistro with a nursery-rhyme name. Arched wood-beamed ceilings lend an airy lightness to the dining room. Mango-kiwi salsa complements sauteed corn risotto cakes to start. A roasted chicken wrap with chipotle mayonnaise, fire-roasted tomato soup (with chicken, tortilla strips, fat-free sour cream and guacamole) and air-baked french fries are all on offer. Calories saved during dinner can be cashed in on the Congo pie, with macadamia nuts, coconut and chocolate.
Worst managament
by mhezel at Citysearch
This place nothing more than bearable. The food is average, the prices are a bit high for the quality, and the wait staff are very lazy. The worst part however is the unbelievebly rude Manager. I saw him literally yell at customer for complaining about the food being cold, and that was just the begining. Any person that's treats other people, especially customers like that should definitely not work in the food service industry. BEWARE!!!
Good Eating, Great Service, Casual Dining
by naydn at Citysearch
One of my favorite places to eat. The food's tasty, healthy with great portions. Some faves include the lamb, pesto pasta, and ahi tuna salad. the "air baked" fries are great. I always have good service and a good time. It's a casual white table cloth affair, small but intimate at nite. Gets crowded at lunch during the week. I really like it in the evenings with the offset lighting and relaxed atmosphere. One of the most consistent dining experiences in town for me.
- Pros: excellent staff, friendly manager, great food
