Best Bbq in Los Angeles.

The best BBQ in L.A. ,the sauce is the best and the rib tips are meaty and tender . Also the prices are fair and the service is friendly. The peach cobbler tastes homemade and the smell there is so nice .
- Pros: Good rib tips , great price
- Cons: baked beans potato salad no seating

Not all it's cracked up to be!

I know people who love this place but I do not see what all the hype is about. I like my barbeque smoked slow so my meat is pink from the smoked flavor and falling off the bone. I have never experienced that here and I've tried both locations. It really is just okay...nothing to write home about.
- Pros: Service is fast
- Cons: That's because the barbeque is not all that
FAR FROM THE REAL DEAL!

Coming from Florida I have a pretty good idea what I want in BBQ. Unfortunately I was let down by Phillip's as with many BBQ restaurants in LA. I had the pork rib sandwich with cole slaw and a shredded pork sandwich on the side. The concern started from the start when I was informed that they did not have ice tea or french fries. Two things I really want when I'm having a good pork sandwich. I had the sandwich first and it was what it was. A lot of unnecessary sauce, maybe to cover up the lack of flavor in the meat. The ribs were right along side with the sandwich. A lot of rub on them and then doused with sauce at the end. The cole slaw I had a hard time eating. There was very little if any smoked flavor in any of the meat. I will say that there was plenty of meat on the ribs and the service was very nice. However if you're looking for a solid pork sandwich or good smoked pit bbq this is not the place for you.
NOT! I was so upset

A few wks ago my cousin and I were craving BBQ and we went to the Church in Compton that sells dinners and the line was around the corner, I was too hungry to wait, so we drove back across town to Phillips. It was my first and last time.... THat was not BBQ... That was mud sauce... I love to eat and I love BBQ, but I was very very Disappointed, it made me wonder " will people hype anything becuase someone else does" I know we all have different things we enjoy, but the bitter flavor was awful. Service was nice, the people were great, i was all too eager after being there to eat since it was a pleasent visit, but that sauce was not the BIZZ

i just recently checked out baby blues, and it was good. but there is a difference between "Da Bomb" and "good". Phillips influences/compells me to utter this phrase at every grubbing adventure. Phillips Isssss da Atom nucleus of Da Bomb Fool ! no doubt
Where is it?

I live around in the west LA area and on last Friday night after work, I decided to have some good food and headed to Phillips. But I couldn't find it with this address, and later I spot another one with the same name right around the exit of the CA-10 freeway. I went in, but to my surprise, they just offer take away. So I am wondering do they have another one where I can sit down and enjoy the food or that's just it? And if the address on this website is correct, where is it? I mean is there anyway that I can find it easier? (around what other stores?)
- Cons: difficult to find
Excellent Meaty BBQ
by lakerexecutive
To me, this is the best Phillips BBQ location. Even though the location is a tiny carryout elbow room only place, the food sure makes up for all of that. The sliced beef was so tender and flavorful. The sauce was perfect and thick, which is good. I also ordered rib tips, which is one of my favorite BBQ items and they were tremendously tender and tasty. Call in your order to avoid the long meandering lines. The price vs. quantity is just right and they even have room to raise the prices due to the amount that you receive. Great place and will continue to go back.
- Pros: Meat Selections, Taste, BBQ Sauce
- Cons: Not very visible, Baked Beans, Tiny Location
L.A.'s Finest BBQ Spot in Town!!

I love, love, love Phillip's BBQ, the meat is tender, seasoned to perfection and melts in your mouth.. What I really like most is selecting my sauce from mild to hot (all equally as tasty). Anyone looking for some REAL BBQ Phillip's is the place. When you do visit (an empty stomach is required) the sliced beef is out of this world. and for desert make sure to pick up a slice of red velvet cake. You'll definitely be back for more!!
