5 to Try: Mojitos in Los Angeles
By Tara de Lis, City Editor
It's quite possibly the perfect summer drink. Long overlooked in lieu of margaritas, mojitos offer a tasty mix of sweet, tart, and bold rum flavor. From Asia de Cuba to Ciudad, enjoy refreshing, minty mojitos at these top Los Angeles bars and restaurants.

Asia de Cuba at Mondrian
8440 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA
The mojitos at this sleek hotel hot spot are done up in true Cubano style--freshly muddled mint is combined with club soda, rum, lime juice, a little sugar and an edible stalk of fresh sugar cane inside a collins glass. -
Basix Cafe
8333 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
This cheery Boys Town eatery makes their minty-lime treats with Bacardi Limon and a float of dark rum. For tart tooths, there's also strawberry and raspberry flavors. Stop by for "Mojito Monday," when the drinks-of-honor are only $5. -
Ciudad
445 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA
It makes sense that this downtown Latin mainstay is known for the lean, mean, green concoction. The "Two Hot Tamales" add their own twist, too, using a minty lime cooler as the base. -
The Ivy
113 N Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Known mostly for their bloody marys and mint juleps, this famed cottage also serves a fabulous (and very strong) mojito. It's also the one place in L.A. you're most likely to enjoy the libation in close proximity to Andy Garcia, Raekwon or another famous native. -
Mojitos
69 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA
This Old Town eatery loves the Cuban cocktail so much, it's even named after it. There are several flavors to choose from, including pineapple and mango. After a couple, you might be questioning whether that glass is really slanted (Xiomara fans will recognize the beverage ware).
