My Favorite L.A. Bars for Out-of-Town Guests
By Tara de Lis, City Editor
Whether it's entertaining fun family members over the holidays or showing off the city in the summer, here's a list of my top 10 favorite bars in L.A. for out-of-town guests.
-
The Edison
108 W Second Street, Los Angeles, CA
This has to be one of the most beautiful bars I've ever seen, not only in L.A. but in the world. The history, the vibe ... it's all there for the taking. -
Cat & Fiddle
6530 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Even when it's snowing back east and in the Midwest, you can still enjoy a heatlamp-warmed night in the pub's rock and roll courtyard. If you get hungry, try the crab fingers--ask for extra sauce so you can sop up its garlicky goodness with bread. -
Roof Bar at the Standard Downtown
550 S Flower St, Los Angeles, CA
Hands down the best city view in SoCal. Don't let them tell you we don't live in a 'real city.' Ours even has space-pod beds! -
Bar Marmont
8171 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA
Not as egalitarian as it used to be, but still a must-see for celeb-spotting. The fab menu care of former Spotted Pig Chef Carolynn Spence is a big plus. -
Father's Office
1018 Montana Ave, Santa Monica, CA
Who could turn down the best burger in L.A., not to mention one of the top beer selections to boot? Chef Sang is a local treasure, if not a bit of a perfectionist. I'm sure even grill-master dad will agree. -
Tiki Ti
4427 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Ahh, the call of the "torrrrrrrro," i.e. the chants of the crowd when someone orders the famed Blood of the Bull. This family-run joint is an Eastside legend--it was first opened by an original bartender from Don the Beachcomber. -
The Room
1626 N Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Smack dab in the middle of the trendiest street in Hollywood, this unaffected little gem offers stiff drinks, a great crowd and unpretentious dance scene. Consider it clubbing 101 for your little sister. -
Spaceland
1717 Silver Lake Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Still a great place to catch up-and-coming indie bands before everyone else has already heard of them. A Silver Lake staple. -
The Veranda Bar at Casa Del Mar Hotel
1910 Ocean Way, Santa Monica, CA
A beach bar for grown-ups, even grandparents ... panoramic ocean views to cap off a relaxing day in Santa Monica, this is grand-scale gorgeous. -
Beauty Bar
1638 N Cahuenga Blvd, Hollywood, CA
It might not be the most novel concept anymore for L.A. hipsters, but don't rule out the martini-and-a-manicure gimmick to give your great aunt a big kick!
